If I was to go aftermarket I'd probably consider the pioneer app radio but as its the first model it might be worth waiting for a new version.

On the after market radio's all you have to do is earth the handbrake wire, video on the move. I'd have to have a look at the wiring for rns models to see what needed to be done.

On the RNS-D you can cut the gala wire (I use a switch on mine). The only downside to doing this is that you lose the adaptive volume change and the navi doesn't calculate very well where you are going when you lose satellite reception. Not that I use it, anyway. Or the on-the-live either!

With RNS-E you can get a plug and play dongle to get on-the-move. Check out the Kufatec site for these.

Shopp, I have looked and looked again but based on that image and the 'Typical Illustration' one in Dunc's link (http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/car-audio. ... 01-adaptor) I am 99.99% certain they are one and the same. However, Dunc's physical picture of his install makes it look different as you can see the sloped edge at the bottom of the fascia/bevel, which isn't present on either your link or his link as far as my eyes can tell. This makes me wonder if he cut out that part from the adaptor so he could use the factory bevel that came with his head unit, if that makes sense?

Not sure what you mean. Which sloped edge?

I think the facia is in 2 parts. The square inside bit pops out, possibly.

So the frame around the screen in the picture above would be part of chunky's head unit, not the facia.

Agreed, or you can hack it out :D. Looking at that picture and the shiny plastic that makes me weep ;), what effect would plastidip realistically have on that for blending it in to the normal Audi centre console finish do you think?

The slopey but that you speak of is the clip on surround for the headunit. The shiney part that reduces you to tears is the main surround that the head unit sits in.
