Its not 450 then? and there still very new and most very low mileage so a bit early to tell but they look to be going same way as Rs4s? Only time will tell or a fair bit more data and dyno results from known sources,i would like to think theyve made some improvements over the last few years but most of the issues will remain for such a big v8 to meet emmisions regs etc

438 bhp is VERY close to 444bhp

and much more than 378bhp of a stock B7

Sorry thought 390 was mentioned, like i said the RS5 needs to age a bit and get some miles under its belt, and then see if some of them fall short on power like 4s did,im pretty sure Rs4s would of dynoed closer the 414 in there first year or two on a like for like comparison.Dont get me wrong i hope they do make the power all day long, that would be great but im sure it will still run direct injection hefty valve timing overlap etc which all seem to contribute to power tailing off etc

Plus with twin air intake there is a better chance the engine will make rated power with less restruction on air flow. Big fans very rarely simultae airflow of a car going at 100mph. Audi always said the big restrictor on the V8 on the RS4 was shoehorning it into the chassis and the airflow restrictions that presented. Plus there may well be an updates Bosch ESP system on the RS5 which may allow for less retardation on power caused through wheel slippage on the dynos

Only still a render, but I think it looks mediocre even though the arches are still a bit square on the render. I reckon itll be a case of taking an S4, honeycombing the grille adding some silver to the splitter & jobs a good'un; much like the 5

Hello guys, I'm new arround here but just want to contribute with some infos. The main reason Audi went with a V8 engine in the new RS4 is very simple: marketing and numbers. Last year I was talking to a very nice guy at quattro gmbh and, although I own a B7RS4 and love that engine (short on power or not) and just want something new if I was to go for the new RS4: a turbo or bi-turbo engine, preferably a V6 (since the V8 turbo won't fit), lighter car (-80-100 kg), vector rear differential, manual and tiptronic option. The answer was simple: I really don't fit the normal RS4 customer, as their studies show. The average RS4 customer is over 40's, the average RS5 is arround 50's. So, you see, that just explains everything (V8 performance, rafined sound, very safe handling - understeer -, almost lack of tuning options). So, there you have it. For know at least, if you want tuning potential, light turbo cars with smaller engines you have to go with TTRS, RS3 , maybe RS1 if it comes out. Maybe, after the new M3 turbo/bi-turbo inline six engine will change the game in 2013-2014, Audi will go back to B5 RS4 route in the B10-11 car. But that is a really long shot, I will be in my 40's by then and I might just want another V8

FON.

Insightful or incited. This is my point, BMW react quicker to the new-found twin peaks of power and economy, why didn't Audi? What, just to go after some 40 - 50 year old car buyers? Who's gunna buy the new M3 and M5, 38 to 48 year olds?
The world has turned upside-down:
  • Audi now courts Merc drivers
    BMW now courts Audi drivers
    Merc now court BMW drivers
No matter where you go, there you are.
