Axing the RS4 this late just doesn't make sense?! The only reason I can think is Audi simply don't want the uneconomical old school 4.2 V8 in the RS4 in these days of recession, carbon emissions and fuel economy. The much more economical new twin turbo 4.0 V8 may not fit - Mercedes just launched the C klasse coupe with the old NA 6.2 V8 because of the new twin turbo 5.5 V8 simply won't fit in the engine bay.
I very much agree with Ian. I really dont understand why they would use the V8 from the RS5 when turbo charging seems to be the way forward in terms of performance and economy. The 4 litre V8T would be so tuneable that there really is no need to look at staying with older technology. With regards to the looks of the car I've seen going around the 'Ring' it looks almost like a baby RS6. The sexy round, curved blistered arches on the B7 seem to have been replaced with square, boxy ones which arent as nice IMO. I am also not impressed with the interior quality of the new b8. Its very plasticy and low rent as I have said before.... And with the RS5 being a bit of a steamroller, it doesn't bode well for the new RS4 at the moment but here's hoping that they pull the cat out of the bag... again!
