I always move between Admiral and Elephant - Admiral own Elephant and I tell them I'll go if the renewal is too high. It always is so I always go - paying £350 now but I do live on an island. ALWAYS change insurance company every year and never say your car is garaged (things fall on it apparenlty).

Luffenham - you're 31 and running a 09 plate RS6 - do you rob banks for a living?!!?

No not yet but might have too so I can run the beast.

I'm in the pub / hotel trade, long hours, 100+ a week, so my bit of joy is buying nice cars.

I was getting quote beyond £1K for my 911 everywhere i tried, including all of the comparison sites and Adrian Flux. I was recommended a company called Bridle http://www.bridleinsurance.co.uk/ who came back and quoted me £440... yes £440... that included 6 track days including 2 European ones as well and ensuring that only manufacturers parts are used to repair (not all insurers do and something to look out for). On top of that the underwriters were the same as the ones Adrian Flux use and £600 cheaper!!!!
so, after checking online when i got my RS4 i thought i would give them another call. As the RS4 was an additional car i had no insurance NCD to use and was getting quotes of £1600 to £3000 through! Bridal came back with £900....They negotiated with a company to match my other policies NCD... result!
So, moral of the story.. give them a call before you sell :)

Just reinsured my car with Admiral. Was with RAC last year for £670 - they wanted £940 this year, told them to 'forget it'. Got it for £743 with Admiral through gocompare with massively lower excesses than with the RAC last year. I'm 43, 5 years no claims, clean licence, live in Cornwall, car garaged, 9000 miles per year, 31 yr old gf as named driver. Some of the quotes I got from gocompare were quite a bit lower again than Admiral but were from companies I've never heard of. Rightly or wrongly I paid a bit extra to go with one of the big boys.

Why they changed the name from Norwich Union is beyond me but I've always found them alright. I worry about the little unheard of ones sometimes, whether they'll pay up or use non-Audi parts.

For those that want to know, 32yo - 4 yrs NCD - HA postcode - Tracker Fitted. It was always my intention to shop around as I'm not yet ready to part ways with the RS. It's just v worrying when this type of raise is considered normal, as it wasn't that long ago when you could expect a moderate decrease in the premium given another year of NC driving. Strange times we're in.

Anyhow thanks all for the pointers, I'll be putting them all to the test.
