It's been an awesome weekend.... & questions

Post by Tomson » Tue Apr 13, 2004 9:53 am

For those of you who don't know. I picked up my RS4 :blackrs4: on Thursday.

I would have been on the forum sooner, but I just had to drive it....... :kissmyrings:

The car has done 150k and was purchased from Jon Parker, it is a standard black RS4 with FASH. :jump:

I must mention as I have done in another thread a huge thank you to Jon for getting the car ready for me, I know the car had been very reliable for him and has had no expense spared on it.

How many private sales do you know of where the previous owner has all the brakes done, gives the car a service just before you pick it up, replaces all of the car matts and has the front bumper sprayed to clean up the stone chips etc.... a great job Jon... Thanks. Jon also managed to fight back the tears and not try and run after me, although I know he wanted too. :D

Anyway a couple of questions I need help with please - before I waffle on...

Where can I buy a new front drivers side foglight ?, mine is smashed.

The high level brake light has a few bulbs out on it, can I replace the bulbs or is it a sealed unit ?

I replaced the wipers all round on the car, but the rear wiper seems to have a lot of play in the motor, is this normal ?

Do I need to contact my nearest audi garage to get quotes for warranty, or can I go to any dealership ?

Does anyone know of a decent warranty for such a high mileage car ?

What are peoples thoughts regarding warranty, as the car has done such high miles, I beleieve the warranty might not be that great. I might just upgrade as things fail.

Do RS4's burn any oil, a lot of oil. I know both my Corrado's burned different amounts, one lots and the other none. What oil ?

WAFFLE

The drive back from picking up the car on Thursday was stupid  , I have never felt so at ease in a high performance car in my life. I am not sure how long I will have a licence for.. For a big car it seems planted to the road - a track day soon is a must..... :beerchug:

Anyhow, got it home and managed to just about let the wife go for a drive. ( i sold both of our cars to buy the RS4, so she will drive it most of the time ). A bad idea, judging by the grin on her face when she returned  .

Anyhow, Friday came, barely slept on Thursday night and got out to the car at 7:00am. I had purchased a load of Meguiars from Bushy. (prevoiusly I have used wax wizard (( now swissol )) and zymol on my cars) and I was very keen to give it a whirl. Well what can I say, four and a half hours later :boohoo: , 1 wash, 1 cleanse and two waxes and the car was amazing - and I mean amazing :jump_clap: .

Spent the rest of days jusr driving everywhere.

Saturday, I played in a rugby tournament ( i appear to have a broken rib and fractured leg... :knob: Ouch). At one point I nearly stopped the car on the way their as my funny friend apopeared to be making me foillow him down every muddy road available. Jealous... :piss: obviously.......
So when we got home at 8:00 I decided to wash her again in the dark  - I used the microfibre dryoing towell in the dark and the car had no drying marks in the morning, a wicked piece of kit bushy.

Sunday.... More cleaning, hoovering etc etc. More driving everywhere.. Also had to sit in the back with my son, whilst my wife showed her mum the power - full on brown trouser moment....

" It's lost power !!!! " - No that the rev limiter love !!! :bash:

Monday, more of the same - what can I say an awesome car.

If I had one critiscm - I would be the ease of the drive. My old RX7, was also awesome. 280bhp - rear wheel drive - tail happy. Commanded respect, scared you. With the RS4, I feel like it's always comfortable, always within it's self - even when it should'nt be.... (As I am writing I am not sure if this is a critiscm or not ? :bigblink: ). Maybe I am not trying hard enough ....

So there you have it, sorry to go on.........

A very happy Tomson...

PS. I felt like I <beep> this morning as my wife drove the RS4 away to her carpark of a work this morning. They all drive company cars and do not give a <beep> about dings and car doors etc... WANKERS. :audibash: ThaNk god for Dent Master !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy.

Just warm her oil up prior to giving it stick, and she should be kind back to you.

I may be able to help you with the fog light, I've got a spare but not sure which side. Get me a part number off the original and I'll have a look.

Sounds like you're having fun, I've got a A6 1.9Tdi loaner at the moment so am somewhat looking forward to picking the RS up this week :D

As for warranty, you'll need to phone around for cover - I hear Listers are doing a good deal at the moment.

I wish I had the time to clean the bugger as much as you do :)

All the best,

Ben

Thanks,

Tom

Just about to ring Parklands audi in Gloucester, does anyone have any experience of these guys ?

According to my EKTA  the part numbers are:
8DO 941 699 E Left lamp
8DO 941 670 E Right lamp.
It seems that usually, odd numbers are left hand side and even right hand side :jump_clap:

Car is home, I think we have a slight ding in the Drivers side door....

But playing the politician I have decided to ignore this first offence before I go down there and start beating radomn beemers...... :bash:

Anyhow, Simple1 you are the man - that has saved me a job for sure !!!.

When you say right do you mean to look at, or from the driving position ? At any road the light that is smashed is the drivers side unit - so I hope that it the one you have Ben.

Thanks, guys. Anyone any ideas about the high levels brake light :?:

I have a feeling it's the left one. So does that make it the drivers or the passenger?

Parklands audi say part code is 8D0 947 700E so closest is right....
which is a bummer £86.87 each.

High brake light bulbs are 95pence each ( of course you would need to include the plastic surround which is sure to get broken trying to fit them, probably £150.00 or so)

Wheel centres are £20.70 each, thought I might buy new ones for the summer...

Heres another question, Is the body work covered for 6 years as I have some rust begining to bubble on the numberplate surround and a possible bit on a sill ? If it is a limited mileage thing I am sure I am knackered.

So far being quoted £1281 with roadside assistance for audi warranty, Phil's tip @ Listers won't cover due to mileage - I think I will plum for replacing as they brake with uprated items.

I'm sure the bodywork can't be a limited milage thing - check your paperwork or call Audi UK.
I'm having some blemish taken care of on the part of the boot lid that contains the handle - is that where yous is?

Where about's is the sill rust? The sill covers are plastic!

Cheers

That's the one mate..... I will check my documentation...

Just went out and looked at the car again, no rust on the sills just a small chip on the drivers side rear where the plastic RS4 ( Bit with RS4 written in )cover meets the sill, I will touch up.

On the passenger side though there is a small hole in the cover of the plastic RS4 bit (same part as above) and towards the rear there is dirt under the plastic piece and this has lifted it slightly and it is rubbing against the underside of the door. This has chipped some of the paint on the underside of the door..... I will ring for pricing for the plastic piece........

" this is parklands audi prts department, we ar sorry all of our operators" etc etc

I will try again in a bit.

Interesting, mine has a tiny rust spot forming there also (in the number plate surround part of the boot - a separate part from the main tailgate). Will get it sorted under warranty. Looks like that bit escaped the zinc bath...

Cheers, Richard.

Where can I buy a new front drivers side foglight ?, mine is smashed.
Not very expensive, and i would imagine a few floating around here as most of us have taken them out and opted for more airflow into the intercoolers
The high level brake light has a few bulbs out on it, can I replace the bulbs or is it a sealed unit ?
Hmmm i did notice that whilst driving behind Jon, i think its a sealed unit!
I replaced the wipers all round on the car, but the rear wiper seems to have a lot of play in the motor, is this normal ?
I have already had a new motor put on as the first one sheared off, get it checked before it falls off!
Do I need to contact my nearest audi garage to get quotes for warranty, or can I go to any dealership ?
Personally the deals that Lister have at the moment are most attractive, its a case of Stratford or Worceste, which is closer
Does anyone know of a decent warranty for such a high mileage car ?
I would imagine that they will judge it on the service history then give you a price
What are peoples thoughts regarding warranty, as the car has done such high miles, I beleieve the warranty might not be that great. I might just upgrade as things fail.
Aint worth the paper there written on IMO, but if its standard not a problem
Do RS4's burn any oil, a lot of oil. I know both my Corrado's burned different amounts, one lots and the other none. What oil ?
Mine did at first burn a bit O oil but it seemed to stop after 10k so i think you wont get too much trouble
Cheers

I've seen other cars with broken RS4 scuff plates - I think it's where little feet have stood on them getting into the car :D Can't be too expensive though.
