I get 180 to 200 miles from a tank of fuel - that's mostly town driving with short journeys at the moment. It costs around £85 to fill up with Shell V-Power. I blame the Milltek and the remap for those figures.

Don't use cruise control - it kills mpg as it does the complete opposite to what you want to do if you want to boost mpg.

You're not using the button in the filler neck are you?

With 20-30 miles range showing I can normally get 60+ litres in until the pump stops, then I press and hold the button in the filler neck and usually get another 7 litres in - making a total of nearly 70 litres.

That was me - and I stand by what I said. My average mpg has gone up from around 20mpg with 0080 to around 22mpg with 0090 - my commute is mostly urban crawl, but I make sure I have a good weekly "Italian tune".

I worked out my annual fuel costs the other night:

it's worth it.

edit: Don't let the 19mpg scare you! It's closer to 20, and I can very easily modify my driving to get a lot more. Most of my driving is on pretty empty A and B roads. I rarely use cruise now as they aren't those sort of roads.

edit2: in the table, change 'fictional' to 'boring'.

For my own safety (and to save others from being killed in what could look like a freak gasoline fight accident) where exactly is this mystery button?? Will the auto-stop thing on the pump still work?

really?

average since got c. 22 mpg.
best journey ever 25.6 mpg
daily commute 20.5 mpg

Had the car 6 weks, it's been cold, wet and horrid - so no fun runs at all. I can'r belive for a second anyone gets 35 mpg unless thier daily is osmehow downhil both ways. Mind, maybe my attempts to stay over 22 mpg are just bad driving, and I'm doing it wrong. Either way, i love the car, it's only money...

Have a look in the fuel filler nozzle and on the left hand side there is a nodule. When you have brimmed your tank and there is fuel in ther nozzle either push forward or pull back the nodule and hey presto, the fuel in the nozzle disappears. It is essnetially for releasing the air in the fuel tank and by doing this for apporx. 10 seconds after a full tank you'll get another 4-5 litres in so another gallon. Max I have filled a tank with is just a fraction over 69 litres and that some some 35 miles after 0 on the DIS.

I would say do this and then drive it a few miles at least especially in summer and there is supposed to be some air expansion gap in the tank and if left completely full on a warm day the fuel vapour pressure may distort the tank. I usually have a 5-10 mile drive home afterward and in all I can get 300-360 miles out of a tank. Although I must say that after deflapping my IM I probably have lost 10% of my fuel economy; used to be 23+mpg av, now only 20.5-21.0. but then I don't commute in it anymore so perhaps the ECU's have gone into optimum power mode rather than optimum efficiency with the type of driving I do now.

It's not a mystery, it's been discussed on here many times...

On the rear inside face of the filler neck you see a small button, when the pump first stops press this down and hold it and then (more slowly as the auto-stop thing on the pump still works) you can get up to 7 more litres into the tank.

Don't attempt to add fuel whilst pushing the "button" with the filler nozzle. Might be obvious, but don't want any accidents.

I've used the pressure button trick for years :)

I did not know that!
very useful for a long trip
mine takes 15 gal (US) (57 l) when the light first comes on...~35 miles left
so I could get another gal + in
my avg mpg is 20 (mixed town/HW)
24-26 HW depending on speed
