And its good night from me......

Post by Coxall8395 » Fri Nov 04, 2011 10:54 pm

Well my car has sold, fairly quickly in fact but I think mileage and condition helped.

A lot of former owners come on and critisise the cars or say what they now have is so much better. Well as i now have a Rover 75 as a temporary car I don't think I can argue the latter.

I think constructive comments are more likely to be accepted by members on this forum. I would certainly not insult them or the cars. This forum contains so many good RS6 enthusiasts without whom we numpties would be high and dry.

I owned the car for 18 months 42,000 miles to 55,000. It was an RS6 avant 03 plate.

The DRC was replaced like for like a year ago and has not failed since.

The gearbox is a smooth as a very silky thing!

The engine is great and it pulls like a train. I never had any warning lights telling me anything. I never had boost hoses ping off, oil cooler pipes fail, gearbox leaks.

I did have the classic rear wash wipe hose departure but that was easily sorted.

I loved the constant grip and the sling shot off the line which left others standing.

I did not like the jittery ride over very poor and broken surfaces. The car did not encourage you to find B roads but it was absolutely superb on fast sweeping A roads where it gave great confidence.

I loved the build quality and the overall feeling of class.

I did not have too many real niggles -DVD drive failed (replaced). TV tuner froze (disconnected battery to reset).

These cars are not for the faint hearted or those without deep pockets. I had a good warranty but I still used to worry about big breakages but they just never arrived. Reading the forums gives you great knowledge but also gives you fear. Ignorance is bliss!!!

I don't regret the car at all. There was a genuine cost related issue behind sale. I'm glad I owned one and hope you all continue to enjoy your cars.

Intersting thoughts on your car as I have just bought one, Were the cost related issues down to huge bills looming due to things breaking or just you can't afford to run like a lot of dogy ones I looked at that people couldn't afford to run and had cut corners. You mentioned never had any warning lights which is strange because in your posts you mention the ABS light coming on Intermittently. If you go to the trouble of writing a report why not be honest. Just thought it a little strange IMHO

Sorry you are quite right.

You know I had completely forgotten about that. It happened only twice on damp surfaces coming out of a bend on a gradient so put it down traction but thanks for reminding me!

The car did not have big bills looming but because we have a baby and my wife does not want to go back to work it was just the right time to sell. Pity as I had got the car to how I wanted it. I was lucky in that the previous owner never cut corners and my love of the car meant it always came first (until baby came that is).

What my post was trying to say was that although these cars can have huge repair costs I felt fairly fortunate and therefore not all these cars will kill you financially.

I hope you have a similar experience with your car.

You've been a valuable RS246er, sorry you've had to sell up but at least you've loved and lost...

Yup  Been good having you around. 'tis indeed better to loved and to have lost than to have never loved at all. Not many people will be able to say they owned such an iconic car.

As for forgetting the ABS warning light, when I was trying to list the things that had gone wrong with mine in another thread, I had real difficulty remembering everything - I was trying to really list everything, but almost forgot the intercoolers, for example. So we'll forgive you the forgotten warning light.

Anyway, what will be your money pit of choice once you can afford something other than a rover 75?

Meh, you've got a family now, there are more important things. As the Americans say "circle back when you can".

Sorry to hear the time has come to be RS6-less. :boohoo:

There will always be opportunities to pick one up in the future should you choose, and there are always going to be those of us crippling ourselves to keep them in good shape for the next owner.

Enjoy the Rover 75 forum... I imagine there will be a lot of cardigans and cordrouy doing the rounds! :jump:
