I have seen the "Carbonator" on JHM's car. It is a sandwich plate that goes between the throttle body and the intake manifold. It includes a low flow Subaru injector which is fed by a tee fitting off the low pressure fuel line. The injector was controlled by a switch in the cabin when I was last there however Dan was working on connecting it to the throttle body position. The intention is that it provides a constant amount of fuel depending on the throttle body position which the computer can auto-compensate for up to 10%. I was told that they had problems with it flooding out the car on the freeway when it was manually controlled, however they were hoping to resolve this with the automatic control.
Not really radical tech, but a clever way to hopefully slow the carbon buildup process."

Thanks for the update ben.
Since you know so much, do you work for, or are you paid by JHM?
jk lol rs246 reference.
Hmmm.. Thanks, but no, thanks.

Black 4.2 RS4 Avant, Titan wheels.
Going for K&N, flat bottom steering, LED rear lights, Dectane headlights, Milltek or Tubi exhaust.
May Sachs Performance rot in hell.
Previously:
Audi A3 1.8T, Audi A4 1.8T, Audi S3, VW Passat 1.8T, VW Tiguan 1.8T (anyone see a pattern?)

Re: No more seafoam...no more scraping. You excited?
Hmmm.
The issue is that with a non fsi engine (say the s4 b7) then each cylinder has its own injector right outside the intake port.
I don't see how a single injector could be able to cope with 8 cylinders at 8k rpm. Are people really going to consider just dumping more fuel upstream of the intake as a viable solution?
As for the rs246 reference - what a prat. The post conveyed some useful and apparently independent information. Unlike the <beep> he posts which is all drag racing and JHM is better than everyone else as nobody in the world can map and tine the rs4 using magic voodoo parts. I suspected the guy spent far to much time inside his own rectum but just confirms it.

No matter where you go, there you are.
Re: No more seafoam...no more scraping. You excited?
So basically the carbonator is something to spray petrol into the manifold? Not a miracle of science is it? Forgive me if I don't start saving my pennies for it.
Re: No more seafoam...no more scraping. You excited?
agreed, this will make things worseadsgreen wrote:Hmmm.

power, drivability, efficiency, emissions, will all suffer
not to mention against federal law and most states laws

Re: No more seafoam...no more scraping. You excited?
While I was on holiday the other week I got my mechanic friend to strip mine and do the carbon clean. Mine has just turned 80,000 owned for the last 12,000 miles. My wife uses it as a daily driver and use at weekends as a fast road toy. The carbon build up was quite bad with big lumps on the back of the valves and the inlet.
The car felt pretty quick before, pulled well in all gears but after having it back after the clean the differance is amazing. It is a lot more responsive and the pull through the gears is a lot stronger, for me it was defo worth doing.

Re: No more seafoam...no more scraping. You excited?
What kind of price are we talking about having the carbon build up removed???
Re: No more seafoam...no more scraping. You excited?
Depends on whether you are confident to DIY or not but I would budget for somewhaere from £500-1k for an independent to do it.
Re: No more seafoam...no more scraping. You excited?
That's a lot of ££££ to only have the problem return within the next few thousand miles.
Re: No more seafoam...no more scraping. You excited?
There is always the Carbonator at hand, just say his name three times and he will appear.big eck wrote:That's a lot of ££££ to only have the problem return within the next few thousand miles.
(edit stupid auto spell).

Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
