I think it's a safe bet that the new RS4, if it's ever released, will get the RS5 setup. Here's whyadsgreen wrote:The thing is for me there's not a car at the moment that ticks all the boxes in terms of pace, practicality, style, noise etc.
Any new car would be a compromise and a <beep> load of depreciation.
The only one that is interesting to me would be the new v8 twin turbos but no confirmation that then new RS4 is getting these. If it ends up with a RS5 lump then no point changing really and might as well throw cash at the RS4.
1. that's a quattro engine, while the 4.0T is an Audi engine
2. the RS5 is 'above' the RS4 in Audi's mind, just as the S5 is 'above' the S4. Fitting the RS4 with a bigger power/bigger torque engine would be absurd.
3. 4.0T getting shoehorned into the B8 chassis might be tough...why would they want to go through the R&D for a limited production, Europe/ROW only Avant?
It makes a ton of sense for the RS4 to get the RS5 engine. I'd be shocked if it didn't. It also makes absolute sense to keep a B7 RS4...although Audi seems to have found a way to limit carbon buildup, so that's really the only big 'plus' of the updated 4.2 FSI quattro GMBH engine. To that end, have we seen inside an RS5 manifold yet after 15,000+ miles?
