Guys, I think this might be a stark reminder of the responsibility that we have with owning these vehicles. A mate of mine, who has a 997 911 C4 (I think) was asking at what speed I could take a particular corner on our route home from work the other day so I went and did it - like an idiot. He had told me he could do it at 'just less than 90' and I
went and did it at 105 - what was I thinking! I'm an idiot! it was a loose right hander on an isolated stretch of remote road, a run off into trees (obviously!) - it was dry luckily but after I got round it I slowed right down and pulled over. I had the clammy palms, the shakes etc - it wasn't a good time, and for what? So I could tell my mate that my car was better than his? It was completely stupid, if I had run out of road it would've been 10, maybe 20 minutes before someone would have found me, wrapped around a tree. Trees don't collapse like lampposts do - maybe I scared myself enough to just chill-out a little now - I'll go find a dis-used airfield if I want to take the car up to its limits - I won't use public roads. The truth is that when the car does lose traction, because it's 4WD and has an awesome suspension set-up with DRC it means that we will be going at a significantly higher speed than the average Ford Fiesta or Vauxhall Astra - this means that we will, most probably, be killed. A great car is one that gives the driver confidence, and our car does this in massive doses - too much maybe - because at some point the limit will be reached. I'm just saying that from now on I'll be finding that limit on track days and not the roads.

+1

Wise words Tim. The RS4 has the hability of making you think you are "The Stig". Despite the fact of being a car owned by people with reasonable experiece behind the steering wheel, the only place where you might find his limit or most of the time yours it should be a circuit (call it the ring or an airfield to drag race) anything else is an absolute display of lack of common sense and respect for others.

Sad news, my condolences to the family. RIP

I'm sure If we were all honest, we've all risked our lives driving beyond our capabilities like this poor chap has, in the past. and just been very "lucky" to have got away with it.
I remember the most stupid and most dangerous driving i ever did, and i still remember it to this day, was having a race with another Cooper S in the 70s and to get past him, i overtook him over the brow of a hill with no idea if anything was coming the other way, just to get past him. I cringe every time i think of not only killing myself but a whole family, or worse, just because i HAD to get past him. Utter bloody stupiidity !!!
I also think if you've had a few prangs it makes you a better driver and, of course, as you get older you get much more sensible, i still LOVE driving a high performance car but within mine and its capabilities.
I know it may be a terrible cliche in this instance but this young man died doing what he loved, like all of us on here, and he would have known nothing about it, it would be over in a matter of seconds and he wouldn't have suffered any pain.

Tragic sight
Is that the road that forks off to the left at Sutton Hoo past RAF Woodbridge heading towards the coast?
There are some great roads round there (Tunstall to Snape for example) but they do say these country roads are the most dangerous.
