Like the RS5 where is the advancement over the B7 in fitting the N/A engine??? In todays day and age it really should have the new kerfankled fuel-saving technology such as “cylinder on demand,” and a start-stop system.
And for that it would have to be the 4.0-liter twin-turbo TFSI V8 520 horsepower jobbie - oh yeah!!

... but with a manual gearbox - Pleeeeease!

I'd be surprised if it is the 4.2.
As above the m3 and m5 are going turbo with good boosts in performance and economy whilst shaving co2 off.
Audi would appear to be well behind if they roll Out the same thing.

I would exect a slightly hotter version of the 4.0 that is in the s4 but lower than the s6. Say circa 480 bhp?

The sound of the zorst is deeper than the B7 which screams as there are no exhaust turbines

My vote is N/A engine too. Unlikely they woud bring out an RS4 that has more power than the RS5. Shame they don't use the turbo engine as the next M3 and current C63 will spank it in terms of grunt (actually, current M3 already does).

Lack of a turbo solution does sound a bit odd. Might they upgrade the engine mid-cycle?

I hope it is a turbo V8 and the rev range used is lower. Perhaps doesn't mean anything but they appear to be changing up a fair bit sooner than what you would in the n/a high rev v8 and using the torque of the car whereas IIRC the new turbo engines go back to 7-7.5krpm limiter.

my thoughts exactly ... those driven the Ring in the B7 will know you need to wring the neck of the V8 to 8krpm and basically keep the revs above 5k

this doesnt sound like its doing that

In the start of the video it sounds pretty force-fed but the second half it's clearly N/A. Maybe it's a bad camera mic or maybe they have a particularly quiet exhaust fitted to this prototype. When it's captured from the front accelerating towards the camera the induction noise is unmistakably NA, you just don't get that with a turbo. 1:15 to 1:35 in the video.

In between Pflanzgarten 1 and 2 you can also hear the rpm's are very high probably close to 8K. A turbo'd version wouldn't rev that high, probably 6500-7000 max. And the driver would've been in a higher gear there had turbo tq been available.
