Taking mine out on Thursday via tunnel. Camping at Mulsanne.
I thought the new laws weren't coming in until September.

Just a few tips based on my experience, as I have a house in France so regularly drive through france (and get caught).
4. In my opinion do not go over 160km/h (100mph) on the motorway. If you do you can be fined 500 on the spot fine, banned from driving in france for a few months, have your licensce taken away and even have your car impounded. I speak from experience.
40kph+ above the speed limit is an instant ban. They will take your licence off you. If you have a "spare" then you're OK ;)
8. You can get fined in France if you 'hog' the outside motorway lane when the middle lane is free.
Bollox. But it's a good idea not to anyway, obviously.
9. Be very, very, very nice to the police if you get pulled over. I have been let off on three occasions this way.
Kiss ass big time. French police can be real cnuts and they aren't at all like the nice coppers we have in England. Don't for God's sake try to talk back.
10. Do not take any form of speed detection device with you.
Radar detectors are illegal. If you get caught with one, however unlikely, then the consequences are quite severe. Vehicle could be seized. THe device will probabyl be destroyed on the spot (no doubt under one of the coppers boots).

BUT... GPS radar detectors are NOT illegal. Yet.

So this is what I would (and do) do. Get a tomtom go LIVE device and buy a subscription for the radars. This way you will benefit from the huge network of Coyote users in France (real time mobile radar warning system) since tomtom signed a major deal with them.

There are very few patrol cars, but they are becoming more and more frequent. Unmarked patrol cars are so rare that you might as well just forget about them. BUT there are plenty of police bikers, and they love to come up behind you.

Be VERY suspicious of any vehicle parked on the side of the road. Look at these photos, enough said:

http://radarmobileardennes.forumactif.c ... -en-france

They love to hide under motorway bridges, too. Like Trolls.

If you want to have some fun, get off the motorways and A roads and find some decent B roads to play on.

So in a nutshell take it easy around Rouen and don't go 50 kph over the speed limit? Coming home last year we headed cross country East almost as soon as we'd left Le Mans town itself. Wanting to do the same again this year.
