Exhaust note opinion

Post by scottie1979 » Fri May 06, 2011 9:49 pm

Is this a typical exhaust sound? Sounds a bit strange to me. Happens with warm and cold engine.

Hope the link works?

Sounds as though you've got a hole in it somewhere? Have you had chance to examine it?

Hmmm mine occasionally makes a similar noise although its mostly on start up and dissapears within a few minutes - sounds like a cold diesel not a v8

sounds like an old fashioned typewriter.

Is there a valve stuck or flapping?

Originally i thought it was linked to SW0090 fix which my car doesnt have. But it happens warm or cold. No noticeable power loss, still got kick at 4-5k revs no dash lights.
Exhaust valves still work fine. Just had coil packs changed but was present before so nothing to do with them. Should have brought it up when it was in the garage then but i thought i was just being paranoid.
Any advice appreciated.

Mine is still on SW0080 and it doesn't sound anything like that.....
Hope you get to the bottom of it.

Must admit it is a strange noise. How far away from the exhaust was that recording.

Try driving next to a wall or hedge, wind down window and listen, It will prob sound louder if it is a hole in the exhausts.

Do you get a loud ticking noise when driving and any other noises from the front of the car when at idle?

I was just standing at the rear of the car when i made the recording.
I cant see it being a hole in the exhaust as when driving at various speed everything sounds normal in and out of sport mode.
There is a kind of ticking coming from the engine bay - I will try and get another recording to see what you think.

Just trying to make up my mind if it is worth putting into Audi for their 'expert' advice.
