Hey all,
I've been a member since I bought my RS and have found the advice and info on here invaluable. I've been a bit tardy in logging in when the cars running fine though. I know, slap wrists. So I thought I'd put a few observations on here after owning the car for 10 months and doing about 9k.
Firstly, AREN'T THEY GREAT!!
The more I've used it, the better it's become, I bought it from a guy who did short journeys and lived in Chelsea with only 19K after nearly four years, I do about 12k a year and most my work is at least a half hour drive each way. So get out there and use 'em people, If you have to give up the fags or a couple of pints on the weekend to afford the gas then so be it!
It had a fault when I first bought it. It was intermitently hesitant when you put the throtle down making smooth gear changes almost imposible and alot of white smoke would come out the back at higher revs. The fault code showed that not enough air was getting to one bank of cylinders and after a horrendous and expensive visit to Eastbourne Audi it turned out to be a 'secondary air solenoid',,, apparently.
Which neatly brings me to, Don't take your car to Easbourne Audi! Honestly, I doubt many of you live this way but I might as well have been showing them a Veyron, the amount they seemed to know about it. After the advice on here I took the trip to Camberley for the due service and found that their attitude was like night and day compared to my local bunch of f#ckwits. Polite without arrogance, helpful and able to help out with a while I wait appointment. So even if your 100 miles away, it's well worth the trip,,,,, and another excuse for a drive!
Camberley changed a front shock foc and that improved the handling greatly. Also had 0090 update which I would recommend. Only improved things.
Changed the plugs a month or so back and that made quite a difference to the running when starting it warm when it used to be a bit temperamental.
I rigged the exhaust to be open all the time which is much nicer. Hated it being shut in the first few gears. I Found that the easiest way to do this was to disconnect the black rubber hose from the plastic one tucked in the bumper (just pulls off). electrical socket screws are perfect to block the plastic pipe and just tape up the rubber one to keep out dirt. Also hate it’s throttle being neutered in said gears so will re-mapping as soon as funds allow.
Tried all the different fuels and haven’t noticed a damn thing between ‘em.
All in all it’s been a very enjoyable 10 months and the best car I’ve owned since my sapphire Cosworth which met it’s end about 12 yrs ago. I hope the eventual re-map with carry on the theme of constant improvements. Thanks to all who give advice on here and thanks for listening. Now go press that start button and go for a drive, it’s lovely out there!

Glad to hear you're enjoying it. I had a remap done and it makes such a difference for 3rd gear overtaking!

Re: Observations after 10 months
Cheers Steve, Thats the problem, I find I'm torn between knocking it down into 3rd or staying in 4th when wanting to overtake the 45 mph everywhere brigade. You know you'll get full throttle after 5.5rpm in 3rd but you kind of feel that full throttle at the lower revs in 4th at present gets the job done just as quick. It's so annoying. Better get her booked in!
