Fines outside of home country

Post by jezitalia » Sat Sep 04, 2010 7:00 pm

Hi
just back home after a trip via Europe in an Italian marked car, a very unwelcome return was a speeding ticket from france and a bill from TFL for taking a wrong turn.

This show's an increased level of cooperation which i did not expect in europe.

while tempted to tell TFL to get stuffed and the French to the same, I figure it could prove a prove problematic in future when I travel to the UK via some nice parts in Europe.

The Franch ticket is a surprise, as it was a real sneaky one. I tried as hard as I could to observe the 50k limits, but obviously got nabbed while being distracted by the kids, or most likely 580 horses under the bonnet and got nabbed doing 88

Just be warned it seems the days of speeding outside 'Home" are gone.

I fear there may be some more "advice" in the post!! Partic after the Mrs had some lead in her shoe on the way back!!!

I have been living outside of europe for some time, so may be out of touch with the latest legislation, so this is for info.

Cheers,
Jez

I had the same problem last week!!

Been living in France for years and always managed to get away with the points (if not the fine!!) Went back to the UK to find that it's no longer the case.

Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

Surely they have to prove you were driving first?
Like the UK system they ask you to name the driver. Not doing so is a seperate offence but still they need to know who they are prosecuting.

I would write back and tell them you don't know who was driving could they send a video to jog your memory and see if they send anything else :boots:
