Ouch......that was my alloy!

Post by Guernsey70 » Sat Mar 19, 2011 9:23 pm

Right, the missus drove the RS4 for the first time today and caught the drivers side rear alloy on a raised ledge in the petrol station. Now it's only a small knick, buts it's a nick non the less!

Can anyone direct me to somewhere that I can get it sorted?? I live in London.

Cheers

ha ha, my lady wont drive mine in fear of anything like that happening.... Audi dinked my alloy when it was in getting repaired. The divers side had a one inch scratch on it from a parking barrier. When I went to collect, they repaired the wrong alloy.... so I got both done for free. They charge €75 + vat per alloy.

Lepsons are very highly regarded - but location is not good - Swindon way IIRC

btw, my wife has driven my car a few times and scuffed two alloys already

I'm sure there are lots of scuffed alloys out there. I got mine refurbished and dinged one within a few days.... what an idiot.

That's always my fear, I want to get my wheels re-furbed but fear doing the same thing again. Being such low profile tyres unless you park 1 foot away from the kerb (then risk getting the door mirror knocked ?) it's going to happen again. I actually drive my car much more relaxed now the wheels have been kerbed, I found I was always driving in fear of damaging them.

Lepson's as stated in earler post in this stream have a very good reputation, they also have a branch in Rochester Kent which would be easier for you living in London. They also offer a car hire service so you can leave the car there whilst the work is carried out.

Just be careful with smart repair - my car has had 'smart repair' on the fronts by someone, piss poor job actually but I never noticed it when looking at the car - has a few runs when really looking close and they spray over some crap on the inside of the wheels. I have heard Lepsons do the full dip and restoration, hence it takes a while, i.e couple of days.

Audi Wakefield Smart Repaired mine as part of the prep.
When I flew down to collect - at first glance they looked the part with no kerbing or scratches. A few weeks later and there were numerous spots of lacquer on each wheel starting to peel, not to mention areas of paint run when examined more closely.

Car is now up on stands with all 4 wheels down at Lepsoms for the full acid dip refurb.
Its going to be close to £600 all in but you get what you pay for.

The £600 I got quoted was from their agent up in Aberdeen (Body Repair Shop); £125+VAT per wheel.

I've just left the car with them so I guess I'm paying for removal of 4-No wheels from car, removal of 4-No tyres and TPMS, dispatch 4-No wheels to Lepsoms.
Then refit 4-No TMPS, tyres and balance on receipt of refurbed wheels.
Also storage of the car on their premises.

My other option is deal direct with Lepsoms but for that I'd have to arrange for the tyre removal, courier etc myself but my drive isn't suitable for having the car up on stands (sloped with chuckies)

£600 drive-in, drive-out, hassle free 10 mile round trip I guess isn't too bad!
