Disc Skimming B7 Audi Rs4

Hi All

I dont usually start topics on here but I just wanted to share with everyone the Brake Discs, I've just had skimmed today.

I purchased some Front Brake Discs off Ebay which were practically new they had covered a maximum of 500 miles.

I had them fitted last week with new pads by a local Vw Audi specialist . But on driving I was getting a Judder
at any speeds over 35 mph, it got a lot worse over 50. The steering was shaking on breaking.
The discs were badly warped.

I then contacted Marcus Bailey a Disc skimmer from Cambridge. He got back to me straightaway and said he could do them,
although the front discs on the B7 are semi floating. I was quite hesitant on getting them done as people had told me it cant be done.

The chap turned up outside my house on a saturday morning in Birmingham after a 120 mile trip at 9:30 and began work.
It was the first time he was doing a b7 but had done a few b5's before.

He began by jacking the car up and removing the Caliper and cable tieing it to the suspension. The machine then does its work.
Upon completion 2.5 hours later we went for a test drive, and the car drives absolutely perfect, no judder or anything at all.

Marcus used to be a Gearbox enginneer for the Williams F1 team and I must admit I was well impressed by his service.

He came from Cambridge to Birmingham a 240 mile trip and only charged £130, which isnt even Audi's hourly charge, he saved me £700(Cost of new discs).

I would recommend him to you all.

I see he restrained the rotor hat with a harness to stop it floatin around but how did he reface (smooth) the disc and stop the lathe ghosting the crossdrilled holes on to the disc?

I'm not to technical but he just ran the blade form the outside in and then back out again, he used a new blade and modified it this morning specially for the car.

I've just come back home from a lengthy dual carriageway drive and its spot on.

When you get the chance can you see if the disc face looks grooved or smooth On hub lathe's do have a tendency whilst skimming to groove the disc and usually require smoothing down (refacing) afterward.

on the topic off discs i've got stock discs which have had the holes widened by a few mm's to help with cooling might possibly part with them they done about 400miles on the car

nope mate cars at mrc just now shipped it down last week hoping to have it back next weekend! i still have'nt went ahead and pressed go on the ceramics doug has a guy who has an rs6 hes just ordered the ceramics i want so im waiting on his verdict before i order wise decision i feel before i spend 10k on them mate i want the 396mm ones which may mean i have to run 20'' wheels which i dont wanna do if thats the case ill have to go for the 370's i've looked around and cant find any other options other than audi ceramics

MOV-IT used to due a 370mm full ceramic set. I had a look at one time but the cost was £16K from fronts and rears! :shock:

Yeh mate there just shy of 10k for the front and I think the back were around 6ish I've emailed the guy with the rs6 he's been really helpful so I'm hanging off to see how he gets on

16k for brakes !!! They better be good. Although relatively cheap compared to the 25k+ for the upgraded GTR brakes.
Still, 16K !! Made me look twice.

Haha Aidan I'm only doing the 396mm 6 pots on the front I think the rears are overkill tbh especially if I go for the 396 fronts there going to be plenty I imagine! Good thing with movit is they can be taken off and transferred onto my next car ( r8 v10 or c6 rs6 ) that's a mega us point! The gtr brakes was it the ones brembo do by anychance I seen them they look completely wild

We have a similar "pro-cut" machine and cant quite understand how he's stopped the floating part of the bell from moving?

Procut told me that discs with floating bobbins should not be done. Interesting that it worked though.

I had mine skimmed at awesome gti after really serious brake judder problems - think the machine they use is a pro-cut. Same results as OP the judder has completely gone. Would definately recommend.
