Check that one of the vacuum hoses has not come off the rear solenoid flap. It is located next to the tail pipe, you will have to get under the car to look.

Surely if the hose had come off, the valve would be stuck open?

I recently noticed both mine were stuck shut - it took quite a bit of force with a hammer and a long screwdriver to open them back up. I then sprayed the hinges quite liberally with lube. They closed back up again after a few days so I've done the mod to remove the vacuum hoses.

some peeps do, it is a straight forward mod, remove Vacuum hoses ****PLUG VACUUM HOSES**** (Very important), cap off the lugs on the exhaust that the vacuum hoses went to, to stop excess debris entering.

DONE

PS for a moment there after reading your heading, I thought one of the exhaust valves in your cylinder head was stuck closed. I was thinking "thats going to be expensive"
