RS4 Passenger door does not open from inside.

Post by m3vhf » Sun Jan 23, 2011 7:33 pm

Hi All,

Just bought my first Audi today afer 8 years driving BMW's.

Forgive me if this has been posted before.

I picked up my RS4 today, when the missus tried to get out of the passenger side, sh was unable to use the handle, i tried all the buttons (Central lockingswitch) and also used the key fob to oppen all the doors bt the door would not open from the inside, i had to let her out using the external handle.

I then looked in the manual, it mentions deadlocking, however i assumed this should always allow you to open the door (pulling the handle twice) from the inside?

Any thoughts on this, assuiming the inside handle is not faulty?

Thanks in adavnce.

Since the door opens from the outside it's not a deadlocking problem.

Sounds like the cable connecting the interior handle to the actual lock is broken or not attached. If you bought it from a dealer go straight back there and get them to fix it FOC (not being able to open a door from the inside makes it not fit for purpose IMHO).

Not a childlock thing is it?

Mines exactly the same. Key buttons open if pushed twice but nothing from the inside release button. All other doors and boot open but can't get in or out of passenger side. Going to Camberley next week for a service, I'll see what they suggest.

the 'bowden' cable goes from the inside handle to the door lock. The cable is very thin so can wear out quickly. just hooks on/off.

Done a couple on Passat's so guess similar thing on these.

Only a few quid for the part but is a door panel off job obviously, also the inner metal panel has to be removed on passats.

Childlocks are only on the rear doors.
