Gaining revs when changing gears.
Gaining revs when changing gears.
When the gearbox changes gears the revs are slightly gaining (app. 500 rpm, from 1500 to 2000 rpm) without really gain speed... is it normal? Or shouldnt that occur when changing gears? When i slightly accelerate it doesnt gain revs without gaining speed...
RE: Gaining revs when changing gears.
Well its not a particularly good sign, does it do this all the time? Clutch pack may be slipping. Does it happen in all the gears?
Mine very occasionally has rpms rising slightly during a shift (only about 200 though) but only during very light loads and usually 4 to 5.
But mine is definitely on the way out already and has the lockup clutch fault.

Get VCDS on it and cross your fingers.
Avus Avant, RNS-E mk2 with sds and Bluetooth, Milltek, Hotchkis, Bilstein, Forge, ITG, A.C.E, Wagner, FBMFSW, MTM.
Log the torque convertor that is where the lock up clutch is but controlled by solenoids in the gearbox valve block afaik. Theres a few threads with these logs do a search so you know which blocks to measure.

Mine does it ..............torque converter is on the way outmavada wrote:When the gearbox changes gears the revs are slightly gaining (app. 500 rpm, from 1500 to 2000 rpm) without really gain speed... is it normal? Are you getting engine management light on or codes in VCDS yet? 17125 get your purse outamanda1 wrote:Mine does it ..............torque converter is on the way outmavada wrote:When the gearbox changes gears the revs are slightly gaining (app. 500 rpm, from 1500 to 2000 rpm) without really gain speed... is it normal? RE: Re: Gaining revs when changing gears.
Vagcom will not show if the clutches are slipping unless you have a total failure of the gear. It sounds more like clutch wear than converter because it happens when changing gear. It is not normal.
If your body is the gearbox, your torque converter is your appendix.
It normally works away, doing its thing without any fuss. But now it's starting to swell. You are starting to feel the pain.
If you get treated quick enough then you might be OK; You can get the dying appendix out and put it a new one in, hopefully with no ill effects (I'm stretching the metafor a bit, I realise).
If it's too late then it has exploded and is merrily spewing pus around your body (the gearbox) which will soon cause peritonitis and then sepsis, at which point you will propbably die and need a new gearbox.
Of course, invasive surgery is to be avoided as much as possible, so if you're going to be opened up, might as well have a new appendix and a new geabox at the same time. IF the gearbox dies after the appendix has been changed, then you'll have to have surgery all over again.
I think I'll go an lie down for a bit.

Well put Shoppinit...
Yes, if anything fails in the box then it is best to replace all, clutch packs, bearings, seals, valve body and the appendix. 25hrs plus of surgery is a lot and is best done only once..
Speak with Martin from unit20, his hourly rates are cheaper than going private (audi) and he has 2 options on box replacement I believe, new and reconditioned.
