Get a spare key from ebay, then get it coded to the car but get it cut so it doesn't match your car. They would have to really want to have your car to come back into your house a second time after realising that the key won't turn the ignition. Hopefully by this time the house alarm would be going off etc.

Might even be possible to code the key just to open the doors and not turn the car alarm off?? That way the car alarm would go off as soon as they opened the door. Still unable to drive off though as the key wouldn't fit.

Depends - if they take the keys and all pile into the car then it gives you massive time to prepar and call for help. If not and they are a bit more 'experienced' then one will go out to start the cat and then only when it's on will the others go.

The way I see it you'd put a set of phony keys (incl the car key so it looks like the real thing) on a ring and put them in one position from day 1 (maybe hanging off the hallway mirror). You point out the keys to them, watch them exit, they enter the car then faff about for a minute or two trying to get the key to authenticate...

Meanwhile, you call the police, move the family to somewhere safe, sound the alarm then grab a golf club. If they come back in they get dealt with.; at least you'll be more prepared for round two.

is getting an Audi key cut easy, i.e. any old key cutter ?

For my old S3 i bought a key off Ebay, programmed it to unlock (which de-activates the alarm) by simply following a procedure i found online, this is on page 75 of the owners manual for the RS4.

This will not pair the key to the car immobiliser, so if they tried to start the car, it would fire up and cut out after a few seconds ( did on the S3, possibly different on the RS4).

Got my blade cut by a guy on ebay, you take a photo and he machines a blade to the photo, if you take a good close up its a good cheap alternative to getting it cut by a specialist, and it works !!

You can order the key pre-cut from Audi, you can definitley match the remotes via VCDS, you need to get all the keys together & then can pair up to 4 to the Immobiliser for this you will need the SKC which you can "only" get from Audi so if you want to do it, I would order the key from Audi & not have it programmed for the immobiliser, that way you could always have the key programmed at a later date & it would work. In fact you can definitley pair the remotes without VCDS as you open the door with the key & then press the remote button when you replace the battery.
