Cool, the basic commands were things like miles to next instruction, miles to next destination and a large symbol in red (eg a left pointing arrow) indicating what the next instruction will be. You have to keep pressing the set button on your steering wheel to bring it up. Afaik it is the next screen after the second computer screen.

I doubt that the Pioneer is accessible with VAG-COM, that normally only works on OE parts.

I was thinking more about accessing the little DIS screen, to tell it to enable the nav screen as though it had RNS e installed, or does it not work like that ?

It doesn't work like that.

When the DIS "sees" the navigaion messages on the Infotainment CAN bus it will display them (provided the DIS is coded correctly), but if the navigation system doesn't put those messages on the Infotainment CAN nothing can/will appear on the DIS. And I doubt very much that the Pioneer will generate the necessary CAN messages.

My Pioneer AVIC-BT unit (similar but slightly older) definitely does not generate CAN messages to VAG cars. Used in 2 previous R32's and a TT.

Although they can be made to work with steering wheel controls without issues.

CAN messages for the MFSW controls is a completely different thing to the CAN messages for the DIS display.

sorry wasn't clear with my original post, I did mean the Pioneer cannot generate the signals for the DIS, or if it can, it wasn't possible to get it working for either an R32 or a TT.

For info, I've also found some of the wiring loom adaptors for the Pioneer units do not support the auto-dimming when headlights are switched on.

Thanks to Neckarsulm and petrol dave I now know that you need to recode your instrument cluster to expect the nav commands, according to dave it is,

Add 4 to the value in adaptation channel 62 of the instruments at address 16, using VCDS (VAG-COM).

Ordinarily I would not have thought this would work, but as it turns out there are a bunch of cheap made in china head units that can drive the dis properly, so maybe pioneer included it !

So are you saying that your Pioneer is displaying nav commands on the DIS?
