I don't think North Wind's depreciation is as bad as it first appears. If the offer of £25k had been accepted the net loss would be £6k. If the dealer profit on the original sale was, say, £3k and you factor in another £1-2k loss because of the time of year, you're only looking at £1-2k of depreciation over 9 months.

Makes me feel better than a £10k loss in 9 months anyway! At that rate the car would be worthless in another 18 months time!

the RS 4 does very well on the depreciation front

Northwind bought high and sold low

If you buy and sell right, the RS 4 will serve you well on a depreciating point of view (i hope!)

^ Perfectly surmised

Depreciation is a constant and doesn't explain what's happened in this instance
Gone: Audi RS4 Avant, Alpina XD3, Smart Brabus, McLaren 12C,

OP DO NOT READ THIS!

Don't be dismayed....I PX'd my dec 2006 sprint avant 5 weeks ago and got £25, 750 for it. 33K miles, OK tyres and a dent(!!).

Selling stuff is down to timing...if you can wait you'll get a good price...if you can't wait...bend over.....

So true, I just bought my cab from a main dealer, for less than they paid you ! infact if you minus the dent and the roof are cars are almost identically spec'd

I think the OP was patient as it was for sale for a while but prob started a bit too high and then ran into the pre-xmas slow down not helped by the weather.

There's a big range in dealer prices.
I bought my March 07 Avant in May this year for £31k. At 45k miles it was higher mileage than average but it was the 1st one I'd seen with the spec I wanted that at a dealer was less than 35/36k...

Colour and spec mainly the lack of buckets etc are why it didnt shift, plenty of others including Tim Harveys are hanging around even in fine condition, the crap dealer buy reflects this also they are fully aware of whats going to go straight away and whats going to hang around hence buying underbook.

tooooo many RS 4's on the market, the buyer can afford to be picky

hence why i went for the best cab in the country (IMO) ... should go like a hot cake when i decide to sell

I said ALMOST identically spec'd it is actually a Phantom Black Cab and yes if I had £25,750 to spend I could have bought my car then walked into a high street store and bought a 40" samsung 3D HD tv with the change !

But all the details will come on friday :)

i suspect a fair number of people who run a car for 3 year from new have ordered a RS 5 and traded in their RS4s...In time it will settle down to its natural level just like the B5s did. mileage and condition will be the differentiators

I so so hope you are right, as I am kind of banking on that ! I specifically bought a low mileage example, and I am a low mileage driver so if I keep it in the condition I purchased it (ie mint and fully serviced on time) I should be able to stave off some of the depreciation.

Come to think of it these RS4's becoming affordable to the masses will have a knock on effect on the price of RS4 B5's

And it has popped up on Wimbledon Audi's website:

http://usedcars.audi.co.uk/carview.aspx?id=601233044

Trying to work out their margin. What is left in it for them after they have put a new set of tyres, pads and a service?
