First wash today!

Post by wolfgang » Sat Dec 11, 2010 10:41 pm

I feel so much better now. LOL. I'm into detailing big time so, because of a break in the weather, I decided to give the car a quick wash today - the first since I bought it a couple of weeks ago. I didn't want to go for a full detailing session as that would have taken too long.

The RS4 is a really nice car to wash. The bodywork is super smooth and very easy for a wash mitt to flow across. It started getting dark by the time I finished so i'll have to try and take some pictures tomorrow.

Anyway, my routine was as follows:

Wheels
Valet Pro Bilberry Safe Wheel Cleaner, agitated with a small sponge and then rinsed off.

Paintwork
Duragloss 901 shampoo with a microfibre wash mitt using the two-bucket method (one bucket for the shampoo, the other with clean water to rinse the wash mitt regularly). Dried with a large towel. Glossed with Meguiar's Last Touch detailer (including exterior surfaces of glass).

Shut lines and wheels dried.

Exhaust Tailpipes
Autosol metal polish applied liberally, left for 10 minutes and then wiped and buffed to a high gloss finish.

Interior
Trim cleaned with Einszett Cockpit Premium. Glass cleaned with Meguiar's NXT Glass Cleaner. Leather cleaned with LTT Auto Ultra Maintain spray. Carpets/mats hoovered.

I really enjoyed the two hours I spent and I found it very therapeutic and rewarding. It also allowed me to inspect every inch of the car very carefully. I've got a slight scrape on one of the alloys and a couple of stone chips on the bonnet. All in all, not too bad for a 51K-mile car. Pics to follow![/u]

It amazes me how quickly and well some people are able to clean their cars. Typically takes me an hour just for the outside, and that's a half-arsed job! Guess I'm either using the wrong products or the wrong techniques!

can't wait to see the pics Wolfgang! good write up seems like a good trade off between time and level of clean.

The exterior body detail was only a wash then QD. I reckon a 30min job max.

Wolfgang are you planning any mods?

And what size tyres are you running? I cant quite work it out from the pics.

Nice photo's Wolfgang and you have a lovely motor.

I do like Mugello. It's probably my favorite after Daytona but tbh I'd be happy with either. I think it's contrasts well with the silver trims and wheels.

Was it a conscious choice to go for the comfort seats?

Thanks for all the kind words everyone.

The comfort seats were what was specced and I find them fine. I tend to do lots of miles per year so they're probably better suited for me. I also need a little more legroom in the back for family members so the comfort seats work for me. Buckets look nicer though.

Possibly a cat-back exhaust - Milltek probably.

Tyres are Pirelli P-Zero Rossos - 255/35 R19.
