Just don't get it...
I didn't particually enjoy my stock rs4 it didn't feel like I thought it would and I'll be honest and say I was trading mines in for a c63 Amg until i found Mrc tuning withought the mods on my car I would have got rid of it I'm now glad I didn't as it's now all the car I'm ever going to need and I don't think I'll ever sell
1*** hp TTE C6 rs6 saloon and the ultimate WB B5
Funnily I said I would never mod my RS4 when I purchased her back in 2007....but soon the modding bug crept back in and learnt that I could make the car better in certain ways esp. for the track. 3 years to the month I have owned my car and don’t regret anything. I have had fun in doing so. There is nothing tacky about the modifications that have been carried out, maybe a few that are not to every ones taste.
Regarding your comments about cheap...show me where buddy! I won’t even mention how much I have spent, most of us use only the best on the market for our cars. One thing about the spacers, I trialled them at Brands and Cadwell last month to see what a difference it made, and I was impressed. But I would not go over 10mm for the exact reasons as stated, exaggerated wear and tear.
I’m not going to sit here justifying every mod I have made, but they are all a improvement to the awesome car that is the RS4
But hey, Am I right in saying we are all Petroheads that have our hearts somewhere planted in modifications to make a car perform & look better?

Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

Not judging, purely my oppinion, and I was asking questions, I want to understand why people mod an expensive car that is already 'the daddy'ArthurPE wrote:who's to judge others?
these cars are hobbies, so people play with them like toys, no harm, no foul
I think spacers look better, others may not...
I'm happy with the exhaust in sport mode, others want more, so what?
the oem is nice, all SS and well made, I just can't bring myself to spend the $$$ to replace something so suitable...but hey, to each their own
if people think going a bit further is 'wrong', why aren't we all driving 1.8 liter boxes?

Your correct, I haven't. Maybe i'm being ignorrant, but just think some things are good enough just the way they are.karl wrote:Just don't get it...?!
Have you been in a RS4 with a non-res Milltek & (MRC) custom remap? I don't think you have...
Re: RE: Re: RE: Just don
asking a rhetorical question that you know the answer to (or that can't be answered) is 'judging'Jonah wrote: Not judging, purely my oppinion, and I was asking questions, I want to understand why people mod an expensive car that is already 'the daddy'
your 'opinion' is that modding is senseless/pointless and 'pimps' the car out
your position is not unknown, it is revealed by your 'question'
Re: RE: Re: RE: Just don
Not many mechanical things are perfect - there are normally ways to improve upon something, customise it (within reason) to personal preference, or work to overcome the effects of ageingJonah wrote:I want to understand why people mod an expensive car that is already 'the daddy'
Like you I was more than happy at first, and for me that lasted 3 years. For many, it was the combination of warranty expiry and the developing expertise of tuners & equipment manufacturers that led to the relatively modest modding that's going on. Either that, or a few rolling road days where the tweaked cars clearly showed their class. So far I've just swapped for a Milltek cat back (non-valved, non-res) and will probably finish with sports (or no) cats and an MRC remap. Was going to change to Goodridge hoses at the last service, but they were delayed due to a shortage of banjo bolts.
Without question, the exhaust has made me smile more that the first day I drove the car

I maybe coming across in the wrong way with what I am saying here, I just wanted to know why? not saying there is anything wrong in modding the car, and its only my opinion to think it doesn't need it.sonny wrote:Funnily I said I would never mod my RS4 when I purchased her back in 2007....but soon the modding bug crept back in and learnt that I could make the car better in certain ways esp. for the track. 3 years to the month I have owned my car and don’t regret anything. Its another world out here thou, our seats were next to the billionaire Yachts, at the end of the race they had a competition to see who had the loudest horn!
Honk honk!
At the beginning of this though is a car that is very good but built to a budget. We are not talking Veyron standard of meticulous engineering here. Also it is a car trying to cater to a broad audience of users so the opportunity to 'tune' it to what the indvidual wants it is what most I believe on here have done.
For example, the ARB's are decent but put a set of Hotchkis ones on and the car is transformed, but some customers won't want as stiff ride. The brakes are designed to go under 18" and 19" wheels which were both options for the RS4; most of us here in the UK could actually put on 385mm discs as we run 19's as standard. Also braided hoses are 10x more expesive to instal than rubber hoses which on 6000+ cars is a lot of money. Can you imagine how much it would have cost to widen the rear track by 10mm so that the tyre just fitted right in the rear arches?
The exhaust was design to give a sporty rasp in sport mode but not be too obtrusive in normal day driving. That said let someone drive your car past you in sport mode and then compare that sound you have just heard to what you hear inside with wondows closed. For me, and testament to how well Audi build interriors, it doesn't allow the noise of the V8 that everyone else hears to get into the cabin. So I have changed to a non-res valved system which looks like OEM but allows me to hear what everyone else I drive past does.
I would agree with you if someone put a massive spoiler on the back or bonnet scoop for a supercharger that wasn't there.

I had an S3 from new and modded that - mostly driven by track usage, Porsche brakes, suspension, arbs and obligatory remap - car still looked standard but was definitely better than standard.
I have though said to myself I'm not going to mod the RS4, its pretty good as it is really. Modding is expensive and really, can be a waste of money as you dont really recoup the costs but I had enjoyed doing it on my S3 (but still was expensive).
I have done the vacumn mod on my RS and it sounds much better - I'm also intrigued to hear a miltek car so you never know...

It annoys me to death the scene that exists in the UK with regards to the modding of cars....any car...ie if you change the car in anyway you are seen as either
a) Poser
b) <beep>
c) Chav
The last thing that comes to anyones mind is a car enthusiast or petrol head..Otherwise why would we all bother buying an RS4 when we can all be potering around in diesals giving 70 mpg..We all have a passion for driving which is why we bought the car and inherently we all strive for the best we can get hence modding..
Its a completely different scene in places such as the US and and Australia
The way I see modding a car and this goes from anything like a Fiesta up to a Zonda, is about making the car more personal or modding the car to suit ones driving style.
The one thing that stops me is usually the cost as modding anything like an RS4 is going to be dam expensive....
Just my opinion
