Just don't get it...

Post by Jonah » Sun Nov 14, 2010 4:45 pm

10mm wheel spacers, miltec exhaust, remap and such like...maybe its just me but I have had my RS4 for around 3 months now, I absolutly love everything about it and can't understand why you would put these cheap mods on such refined car.

I put wheel spacers on my MkII Mexico, put a bluepoint chip and stainless steel exhaust my 309 16v GTI but wouldn't even dream of changing anything about my RS4.

I can think of a few reason why you may all do these mods, and am intrigued to find out why. Is it the boy racer in you? bearing in mind the poll puts the majority of owners in the over 30 age range, shouldn't you have grown up by now? And then I suppose there is a fair few of you with enough $ to have an RS4 as a toy and have a tinker.

For me, the 19" rims sit nicly in the blown arches, the sound from the exhaust with the sport button activated is like listening to angels singing in the night and the power it produces is way more than is require for the uk highway.

Not having a go at all you modders, just curious to why?. I drive past a pimped RS4 on the way to work every day and just think he has defaced the beauty that is the RS4.

I only have the spacers fitted to mine and would disagree strongly with what you said regarding the alloys sitting nicely in the arches as standard. I think they look much much better with 10mm spacers on from every angle.

Beauty of course lies in the beholder. For me the exhaust note was just slightly too subdued all my life I have loved the sound of a V8 so I put a tubi on. My next mod will be to uprate the brakes because I think they can be improved. Performance is adequate for me. I have not seen on this forum any pimped RS4. I have seen some with spacers and slightly wider tyres but most people would be hard pressed to tell any differance. If you track the car you are constantly looking for that little bit extra. Hope this helps a little.

Personally I'm not a fan of obvious visual mods (non standard wheels, aftermarket lights etc) but don't have a problem with spacers - although wouldn't bother myself

I totally disagree that Milltek and a remap are cheap mods, and that they deface the car - both points are subjective at best. Most people prefer the sound of a Milltek, and visually it's near as dammit identical to oem. Similarly, most people who have a remap simply get the figures that the car was advertised with in the first instance

personal preference me thinks.

some like to be different - i have changed the intake and exhaust, again i think the exhaust note from standard should of been a little bit louder, and i like the look of the gruppe m. Yes its probably the kid in me coming out, and i like to tinker.

i believe the look of the RS4 is awesome and doesnt need tinkering - but again thats my preference . Maybe you need to elaborate on this suped up RS4 you pass every day - does it have a body kit, different wheels?

If we were all the same the world would be a boring place!

Ok, so I admit with the spacers on, it does give it a slighty better stance, however, its not got a bad stance as standard. What I would say though is are you not taking a bit of a gamble in terms of weight distibution & handleing, the car is not set up for spacers, surely this would effect performance?

Slightly subdued? I turn heads everytime I dip the throttle.

Brake upgrade is fine, but does it realy need it?

Tracking the car is another one for me, I wouldn't be able to push mine on a track due to possibilty of wrapping it up. Do you boys who do track days have insurance for them?

My cheap comment was not on the price, more of a cheap sound, I would be turning my head expecting to see an Impreza, the RS4 is in a different league.

I think your being abit ignorant on the Milltek front .. Have you heard one? They are immense!

I was at the F1 today in Abu Dhabi and they have 2 safety cars go round, the SLS and the C63 ... The SLS sounded nice, deep low burble ... But the C63!!!!!!! OMG! It sounded like a caged beast ... Amazing!

That's from stock, and that's a Mercedes

That's how the RS 4 sounds with the Milltek

Its not the "boy racer" ... Its the petrol head in us

who's to judge others?

these cars are hobbies, so people play with them like toys, no harm, no foul

I think spacers look better, others may not...
I'm happy with the exhaust in sport mode, others want more, so what?
the oem is nice, all SS and well made, I just can't bring myself to spend the $$$ to replace something so suitable...but hey, to each their own

if people think going a bit further is 'wrong', why aren't we all driving 1.8 liter boxes?

Just don't get it...?!

Have you been in a RS4 with a non-res Milltek & (MRC) custom remap? I don't think you have...
