Urgetn Help Needed please !!
I wonder if it's a similar problem to this:

If the relay was sticking on, might explain why no power to the items you mentioned;

Sounds pretty close (especially if you check through all the thread), could explain a lot, doesnt mention indicators, but does mention radio in the links, although they are for a Volkswagen and so whilst not be buzzing, does sound like a good suspect.Shoppinit wrote:I wonder if it's a similar problem to this:

Now to get an 8MM spanner (for the box) and a relay of a suitable sort, whilst im in telford....
btw has stopped working again after a brief period of functioning.
have got it booked into stafford audi on wed just in case, if this was the problem might explain why no code retained in the ecu, or is thus rubbish?
either way if it is this result methinks...
fingers crossed.

I hope it is, but it feels like a long shot. I can easily see this not causing a DTC.
You could always pull the relay to see what happens when you try to drive it. Perhaps if it's not present then it won't be able to cut the power off.

Sorry, I think it's a red herring. That relay seems to be for the secondary air injection.
But all is not lost. There IS a relay that cuts out X-line electrics so that you can start the car, but it's not the one in the other topic. You need to find the relay number 100 I believe. Part number 7M0 951 253A. I think this is on the relay holder near the fusebox inside the car; You might need to take some of the lower dash off to get at it.

Just checked. Wipers, indicators and A/C control unit are all powered from the X line. So this relay could be the culprit.

Update -
Changed both relay and the ignition siwtch - fault testing proved both might be faulty - changed relay first seemed to help but fault persisted and then changed ignition switch.
So far all seems well on my journey to and from work.
Not entirley sure if I have been ripped off or not - perhaps would have preffered upon reflection to have tested it myself after the relay was changed out - but you have to have faith.
Either way - Stafford Audi very helpful, two year warranty on the parts, and if it goes wrong again, I have someone else other than myslef to shout out now !
Thanks for all the help and advice - BTW the X-Line relay (100) was the one changed - so thanks for the reference, it was invaluable, and perhaps saved even more labour time >>>>>

OK, Bad news fault is back as before
So any more ideas ?
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the RS6 C5 ?
Ive booked it back in with Stafford Audi for Monday, dont need it until then, I think they have now replaced pretty much everything on the X-line (relay and ignition switch !!).
I have informed them I am very disappointed (understatement!) and very perplexed.
Still feel like an earth fault to me... Any idea where (hence the wiring diagram request).
Any advice or more ideas ?
Thanks.......

Now this may seem to be an obvious thing but how old is Your battery ?
I had similar problems with a Merc once, all kinds of intermittent electrical faults and problems which manifested themselves with the central locking mostly.
After lots of head scratching and parts substitutions it turned out to be a dead cell in the battery.
Have the battery drop tested (tested under load) Krap-fit will do it for free so its worth a shot.

Behind the lower dash under the steering wheel, you will be able to see the terminals with the X line (amongst others) going to it. The terminal for the X line is identified clearly with X75 (or 75X - can't remember which.
There may be an earth terminal here also. I would take an approx 2.5mm² section wire and wire the earth terminal to the car body to see if that improves things. I would also at the same time get an second earth strap and connect it directly from the battery negative terminal to the bodywork.
This way maybe we can eliminate the earth as a problem area.

Hi,
Been away all week so haven;t needed the carm thankfully.
Some great ideas, I will be checking tomorrow (weather permitting!!) and will update with any progress (hopefully).
Surely can't be the relay again can it (!)), I take the lower dash off and check the relay and x line again.
Would have hoped that Audi would have checked for some of these basic ish faults - but you never know.
Thanks.
