19H1 recall

Post by alex_123_fra » Thu Sep 09, 2010 3:38 pm

Hi all,

Just a quick post to see if anyone knows about this. I started driving to work earlier this week and about 2 minutes into the journey the water temp gauge started to fall instead of rise. Then a minute later a red warning with "coolant level low" came up on the DIS and advised to stop driving immediately. I pulled over and waited. Turned car back on, same issue. Opened bonnet, sure enough engine coolant was leaking.

Got the car towed to audi and apparently an engine coolant pump was replaced. This was supposed to be a recall (19H1). I have never heard of it and was not contacted to get it done prior to the issue.

Anyone had similar issues or had the recall notification?

Scary to say the least and I am very glad I was doing about 2 mph (london traffic) when this happened. I can see this kind of issue causing massive problems if the car happens to be driven hard when it occurs.

Ah thanks Pete. Hopefully the new pumps won't have any issues. I have to admit this put a slight dent in my confidence in the car (which is otherwise flawless).

So if any of you guys with B8 S4s haven't checked your coolant/pump, get it done!

What's weird is, from reading that forum, it appears the latter-built cars do not suffer from this (the US use different model year indexing so it's a bit confusing as to what age car they're refering to). However, mine's an 09, so one of the first batch, yet my dealer tells me it doesn't need the recall :?

bye bye
