Whats happened to the market?

Post by ecain63 » Tue Oct 19, 2010 8:24 pm

When i first put my car up for sale a couple of weeks ago i was fighting buyers off at the door. Despite the pressure to commit I decided to put them off while i waited for a forum member, who then bought it as expected / intended. As pleased as punch i got on with the next phase, but it then unsold due to some unforseen issues with the buyers finances. 2 of the original potential buyers bought 6's the following day. The others disappeared into the ether never to be seen again.

Now relisted ive only had 1 test drive, and 2 calls of interest. There have been some enquiries from here and off srs but nothing like the first time.

What the hell is going on?

It's the run up to crimbo son. If you think I jinxed your sale by tricking you into telling me what you had lined up next, then I'm sorry for that. Bad joke in the end.
You have one of the sweetest 6er’s left on the market, hang in there Eddie, and try to keep your mind off it... idle hands and all that...

Its hard to keep your mind off it when every passing M5 has a deadline. My next potential car is a peach and a bargain to boot but it wont be there for long. Im not getting much sleep and the Blackberry is within arms reach 24 hours a day.

I think the main issue is that there are loads of £10k and £11k dogs on the market. No matter what you tell people they still end up buying them instead of a good one. Then they stick them back on PH or Autotrader at £9k when they realise the cost of repairs and so the horror continues. Spending £15k - £17k on a minter will pay off very quickly when compared to an £11k dog that needs £10k spent on it to sort the gearbox and DRC.

I also blame the 'book price' brigade. They make me sick. You dont get that with the B5 crowd.

I'd love a B5, it's taking every fiber of my being to not buy one. I'm plowing money into the '6 to avoid a B5...

Stay positive, keep posting, keep your car talked about and answer the phone when it rings. You can't do anything else, keep calm and carry on.

You've put your finger on it. And there seem to be a few cheapo ones at the moment.

Eddie, you are discovering that no matter what you or anyone else says, your car, no matter how good, is only worth what someone will pay for it. As I found out with mine. :(
I'll tell you something tho.... you will wish you had never sold it. Especially after living with the M5 for a while. I nearly bought one 2 years into ownership of the 6 and had it for a weekend test drive and put nearly 700 miles on it. Very disapointed.........
It's all Bollox.
Half of what you read is bull and the other half is all <beep>.
