Aux rad leak
Aux rad leak
Ok, serviced today, I have a aux rad leak, which I believe is common, what sort of price should I be looking at? Are there 2? is it worth getting both changed?
Cheers in advance.

RE: Aux rad leak
£600 + ... yes there are two, and yes they both leak
RE: Aux rad leak
Is there a quality issue? Where do they leak from? Repairable? Should I replace with OE or is there an upgrade available?
20 questions! Cheers

RE: Aux rad leak
Just priced them at £145 each. I've not actually seen them does anyone know if they are plastic end caps? Just wondered about having them recored?
RE: Aux rad leak
One rad is oil, the other is coolant so only replace the one, which I'm guessing is passenger side (coolant)

Are you sure? I was under the impression there were 2 aux coolant rads?xyber wrote:One rad is oil, the other is coolant so only replace the one, which I'm guessing is passenger side (coolant)

Drivers side is an oil rad. You can get an upgrade kit for it with a more efficient oil cooler that gets relocated directly behind the grill

RE: Re: RE: Aux rad leak
I have an oil leak at the front end too, so could well be that then!?
I actually feel better reading this. My nearside aux rad has leaked for the last 9 months but only a cup full max a week so I've not done anything about it, I just check and fill up. Now my oil rad looks to be leaking a tiny bit but not much. I might have to get this seen too soon but I at least feel better that the leak is probably the rad not the engine.
I wonder if it's an air to water oil cooler/heat exchanger then? It's definatly part of the oil cooling system because the upgrade kit deletes that rad and a replacement oil take off plate is bolted to the side of the block and a new oil rad is fitted just behind the lower grille. The space left is just the right size to fit a dirty great centrifugal supercharger.
It may be cheaper to get the rads made, rather than buy from Audi? But a suspect a fair bit of that £700 is labour fees

It could well be the rads leaking but just check that the headlight washer is not leaking onto the rad.
Mine was and it was diagnosed as the rad until I noticed the colour of the fluid was blueish like washer fluid not orange/pink coolant fluid.

In the end the total cost of replacement for both aux rads was £670. The rads were about £140 a piece.
I asked for the rads that were removed so I now have two apparently leaking radiators! To answer other questions on this thread they have plastic end caps. Also they are a different design on each side; one has inlet/outlet on one end, the other has them at each end plus they are slightly different sizes. (well, at least the 2 rads I was given are)
