so the 4th day into ownership of my 39000 audi approved vehicle and coming back to my car there is a small pool of oil by the front passanger side of the vehicle.
I've just taken it back to the dealer and watched as the mechanic takes the under guard off to find a split hose and bolt which are both made out of metal.

So im slightly annoyed but i can just about live with that but my main worry is i was told that the service book and spare key will be with them in a few days but I've just been told that they had to order in a new spare key ?
They have told me that they will reprogram both keys after i said i wasnt too happy with the idea of a spare key floating about.

I then asked about the service history to be told that its all on computer and i asked if i was going to get the original to be told they dont know.



This is my local dealer who know me and i cant believeim finding this out now. What would you do ? should i reject the vehicle ?

I'd definitely be threatening to. To be told, "we don't know" isn't acceptable.

My worry is i cant see how they reprogram the rs4 keys ? Also the fact they have so called ordered me one already would indicate that they new there was no spare. 'm getting really annoyed about this. Can i reject the car on the basis of this fault and not having a proper spare key ?

Don't know about the keys being reprogrammed. That'll get resolved though under the Approved Scheme.
I'd definitely say you have a case over the service book though. Its an integral component of the car IMHO and the value of the car can / will be affected without it whether or not Audi have an electronic copy. If they told you it was coming when they sold you the car then it 100% should be provided. I'd not be nasty about it but I'd be telling them that you are considering rejecting it unless they provide the book as it was promised when you bought the car.

But if the car has not got the proper service history book asi was told and the fact that it's missing the key which from what I've found out can not be reprogrammed and with this fault after less than 4 days surely I can reject the car on the basis of not as described or fit for purpose on the fault ?

the service book is just a piece of paper. .. as long as it has a FASH, they will give you a service certificate ... getting YOUR cars history is like getting blood out of a stone

Aka due you know if the keys can be reprogrammed as the dealer has said or would all the locks need to be replaced ?

Sorry aka_dk. Don't quite agree about the lack of service book. If you go to sell it and there is no book then that would be grounds for concern for me. If nothing else it'd be a bargaining chip if I was buying. If they said they were going to provide it and don't then that's an issue.

you can get another service book and the servicing dealers can stamp it

but it is just a piece of paper, and if you buyer wont buy your car because it hasnt got a piece of paper with some ink on, despite them being able to independantly call audi FOC and have them confirm the service history, then ... well...

i had the same thing with my service book,wasnt happy when they said they could only give me a new book but with no details in it,when i got home and whilst dusting my new toy i LOOKED UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL TO SEE A SLOT UNDER THE DASH CONTAINING THE OWNERS H/BOOK,SERVICE DOCS AND THE NAV HAND BOOK,obviously the stealers are total numpties that dont know where they should be stored (have a look you never know)

My first point of call would be Consumer Direct.

They are fantastically helpful in these type of circumstances.

In my opinion if the call was purchased based on the understanding that the original Owners Handbook would be forthcoming, along with a full account of the Service History of the vehicle, then these become express terms of the contract. It doesn't matter that it is only a bit of paper with a stamp and some ink on it, so you would be quite within your right to ask for your money back because, surely, they are in breach of contract?

I am sure there is a lawyer onboard who can advise?

The guys at Consumer Direct do advise the law is an ass in this respect though, because, if you had to wait for confirmation in writing of many of the questions you'd like answered before you put your money down and "seal" the contract, someone else would always be snapping up the car ahead of you!

The problem with the verbal confirmations is that you're always up against it if and when it gets to court because it'll be hard to prove. Good reason for always taking an independent mate along with you as a witness to the terms of the deal you strike.

I've got this issue at the moment with a potential misrepresentation (criminal offence) by the dealer on a vehicle I am purchasing. Its the ace in my back pocket allowing me to ostensibly get my money back if the deal stalls, but like DK says, getting the info out of some dealers is like getting blood out of a stone. You'd think if the car was a good one they'd fire it off to you without delay!

At least Audi have a central database with their cars info on.

Jaguar, Bentley, RR, Land Rover don't!

Am I missing something here? If it's an Audi Approved car you get a 30 day no-quibble return option don't you? If you're not happy with it then just go and park it outside, drop the key off with them and get your money back. This is first class shoddyness if you ask me! I had a similar thing when I bought my RS4. No second key and an MOT certificate with a mileage 4000 more than the car. Makes you wonder exactly what checks they do do!

I thought the Audi Approved 30 Day Exchange deal (many car manufacturers offer something similar) means you can exchange your car for another similar car not necessarily get your money back.

You can get your money back in certain circumstances but that is governed by the Sales of Goods Act.
