Don't suppose this has the extended Audi Warranty & if not do you know if it could be applied?

Gorgeous car btw.

Thanks Leon. I took the view that as this car has had everything done that's likely to cause a problem, and with the DRC issue being covered by Audi UK, it really wasn't worth the £1,600 that I was quoted to extend the warranty. Camberley kindly went over it with a fine tooth comb to check that everything was ok before the warranty expired and that's good enough for me. I went "self-insured".

With a full Audi service history I can still throw myself at their feet should anything major crop up

And if a potential customer still wanted reassurance, but did not wish to fork out £1600, Warranty Direct offer a comprehensive warranty at £750. There is a thread on this.

Have been told by 2 dealers that if your warranty has expired you will be hit for more than £1600 more in the region of £3k . This was introduced in January of this year.

Not sure about it being £3k but do know you would have to pay Audi to conduct a pre warranty inspection at £x to see whether they are happy to cover you car and then £1800+ for the warranty itself.

The concern for me with companies like warranty direct is not what parts they cover but that the labour rate is equivalent to how much Audi charge. WD used to be £40 per hour but Audi rate was £60+ to warranty companies.

I would still advocate that if you have a good local independent and how readily available parts including whole engines now are then if the car doesn't have a warranty then not to worry as the money you would pay for one, put it aside for a slush fund and very few would spend that amount over a period of 3 years on warrantable work.

Warranty is like insurance. How many people have cost more in fault accidents than they have paid in premuims in the years they have been driving and insured and you don't get your balance money back at the end?

When I bought mine a few weeks ago I was quoted £100 for the inspection and £2200 for the warranty. I opted to go the slush fund route.

Thanks Glenn. As already mentioned, I took the view to "self-insure" as Audi's generous offer seemed a tad high.

Hi Nib

I hear what your saying but I did once own a 56 plate saloon & had nothing but trouble with it.
The car was only 6 months old when I bought it & I think it had 5k on it.
The dealer was crap.........It was an Audi Dealership in Manchester!!!
As I'm in Sheffield, Camberley Audi is a bit far to keep traveling to every time I have a problem!

Don't really know why I'm thinking of buying another after all the problems that I had with such a low mile example????
But there's one thing, I really love the sound of the V8 in sport mode.......to die for ;-) & it's a nice place to sit!

Mulling it over!!!
Leon

Not sure. I have a car in the US undergoing a rather expensive restoration and I suspect that I'll go for some basic wheels until it comes back to the UK.

Cash seems to be all one way at the moment..........

Willing to tell us more?

It's got to be a "muscle car" surely?

Not that exciting I'm afraid. It's an old (1974) BMW 3.0si Estate (Wagon to you Arthur), being restored by The Werk Shop in Lake Bluff, IL. It's pretty rare though.......

That's great. At the time of launch the 3.0 Si was the fastest 4 door saloon in the UK (short diff, I think). I did not know they had made an estate. I had the Coupe version, rust was always an issue.

Rare is good.

The craziest "BMW" wagon I remember was a mule I was lucky enough to driove at the Milford Proving Ground near Detroit, which was a Buick wagon which had had a BMW V12 shoe-horned into it. It had far too much power and torque for it's chassis, so you had as much fear as fun when driving it!
