So after the 4 months in my current RS4, I have am jumping out of it for good - barring no disasters between now and Friday. The car never managed to excite me like my first RS4 or the RS6 thereafter. Perhaps its my age at 37 or perhaps its that I have an impending speeding case coming. Perhaps both of these. Using these cars the way they should is becoming harder and harder.

It is with all this in mind I am going to the opposite end of the spectrum and jumping into a Touareg V10 tdi. Slow, rolly-poly, large, plenty of toys, comfort and bags of torque...

The Q7 is huge and I dislike the looks from the side and rear. The Q5 is gorgeous and drives superb but I think overpriced just now.

So after these cars:

S2 Estate
B5 S4 (500bhp)
B6 S4
TT 3.2 DSG Roadster
B7 RS4 Saloon (440bhp odd)
C5 RS6 Avant (550-600lb/ft)
B7 RS4 Avant

.....Its time to leave the Audi fold. At least I remain within the VAG stable....

I'll pop in from time to time and MRC will still see me around.

I'm thinking of getting rid of mine i have had loads of hassle with mine since buying in Dec 09 but it has all been fixed for foc its had new clutch/flywheel complete bottom end engine, i have just put complete discs/pads/goodridge hoses all round and 4 pzeros so should keep it but I'm starting to look at other cars. all the faults mines had have been fixed and the spec is great nearly every option apart from ceramics, but all the faults and all talk of carbon build up and having to spend 2k plus to get it cleaned ported to get go better is grinding me down, but i don't know what to go for, nothing looks better than the RS4
good luck with the sale Rob hope you don't regret it, that's what I'm worried about

wellzie, you say 2k to get it to get better, is it not going well now? There is very little out ther apart from a GT-R it seems that is 'better' I realise you were sold a bit of a pup but would seem a shame to trade up now you have the car as it should be and can spend time enjoying it?

yeah it does go well, has a nice kick around 5k just worried what will go wrong next, have just had light come on with code 0491 so thats pissed me off and all the carbon bollocks, and the missus struggles to drive it smoothly

Until there is conclusive proof about carbon and its effects just treat it as that, bollocks. AS for the wife driving smoothly, in town just advise her to use 2nd and 4th, there is more than enough torque to do that.

I can understand your viewpoint. The cars you mention are great in an environment with good roads, no speed limits and no congestion.

However those glory days of motoring are gone. I keep thinking I should get myself a car that can do a max of 100 mph (governed), weigh less than a ton, simple 1.6 engine, sensible sized wheels & tyres, decent but not too powerful brakes, firm suspension but not so stiff, supportive seats for the driver & passenger, 30+ mpg,

The Touareg is not quite that , but I think you will feel more "comfortable" overall. And then you can always get track toy.

Yep, got done for 88 mph on motorway yesterday so can see Tartan Robs views.....although got to admit even a polo 1.2 I had as a hire car managed to nudge 100 mph so a change of car to keep your licence clean might not be a option.

Cheers for that i found out that 0491 secondary air injections system bank 1 its in swindon audi on tuesday then i will have to do loads of ringing people to get it paid for nightmare

The performance etc was there but the big fear I had when getting back into one was that I had been there and done that and that would appear to have been the case once the initial excitement had gone.

Both of my daily cars (RS4 Avant and Citroen C1 Code) will easily exceed the national speed limits.

The RS4 will break the speed limit so easily you might not notice.

the C1 has to be ragged to within an inch of it's life (which in a strange way also makes it fun to drive since you have to work at it) which means it's easy to not notice that you've ragged it over the limit.

So a small low powered car is not necessarily a licence saver.

There is something perverse about hitting of the limiter in 4th gear and only doing 90 mph (thank got it was a hire car). It wouldn't rev out in 5th gear - even down hill.
