Mine was delivered in July 2006 with 0050, was updated to 0080 in October 2008 IIRC and to 0090 in June 2010.

Not sure of the same versions apply to NA deliveries.

bought the car from a dealer (CPO'ed) in Oct 08, so most likely has 0080, but not 0090...

also my service interval was not reprogrammed to 10k miles, it was left at 5k miles which is required for the first service...might leave it at 5k since that's when I do oil changes...

I'm not sure if the UK software versions are the same as the US's. I have a very late '08 model and my version is 030 and the latest I've seen on a US car was 050. Not sure though. I'm perfectly happy with the 030. Yet another reason to get Vagcom Arthur..you can see what software you have.

been thinking about, but I'll probably wait until the car is out of warranty and I get a MIL or the car feels 'wrong'...

what's the best set-up for the RS4?

Vagcom (VCDS) set-up? You'll need the HEX-USB+CAN for an RS4 ($349 USD) as well as a laptop running Windows XP, Vista or 7.

..as I have just found out after 18 months with my HEX-COM + CAN cable, if it gets damaged without excessive abuse you get a free or low cost repair/replacement from Ross Tech or their suppliers (Ilexa, Truro in my case  )
They even sent it back special delivery which cost them £6+ and it took just 48 hrs after posting to get it back, total cost - zero

If your oil level is OK (not over filled), then maybe this is the cause of your cold start smoke?

BTW mine doesn't do it now after I had the engine ECU SW upgraded to 0090.
The oil level is fine, not been over filled. What is this ECU upgrade and who does it?

from what I've read (and I've seen the TSB for it) it is primarily a maintenance record keeping upgrade, no real operating changes...
at least for the latest US version
pretty sure only an Audi dealer can do it

Interesting... do the dealer plop SW 0090 on to the vehicle whenever they get a car in for any sort of work as a matter of course?
thanks!

No, 0090 is an "on request only" update.

0080 was an automatic upgrade.

To get 0090 you have to say that you have rough running after cold startup and you want the SW upgrade that fixes that problem.

I run VCDS 10.3 on my Acer One netbook using a HEX-USB+CAN lead - works great.
