isofix?

Post by wellzieRS4 » Sun Jun 27, 2010 8:39 pm

Bit of a boring topic apologies, i have just had a new addition to the family so i have brought a car seat that uses a base that fixes to isofix , i brought this thinking that my B7 RS4 with bucket seats had it. After looking at the brochure it says it is standard unless you spec it not to have it then further down on the brochure it says it only comes with recaro sport seats, anyway if i fold down the back of the rear seats i do have 2 hooks that isofix fits into but when the seat is up you really have to pull the bottom of the back rest up to fit the plastic guides in for the bars on the car seat base to fit. it fits but it fucks the leather up it big time puts 2 big creases in the bottom, i have seen on other cars they have 2 a little flaps at the bottom of the back rest to allow access to the isofix, anyone else had this problem or should i have some little access points at the bottom of the back seats also i don't have a switch in the glove box to turn the passenger airbag off was that a option? any advice appreciated

Basically you've got it all correct. Isofix was standard on the outer rear seats unless you chose not to have it and is only available on the front seat if you have the recaro sports seats which the gets you the airbag switch in the glovebox. You're not missing anything about the plastic guides marking the leather either -sorry I don't have any recommendations.

Bit drastic but I bought a bigger car for the wife that became the family car so the car seat rarely goes in mine. The plastic guides mark the leather in her A6 as well. If anyone has a way around this I'm interested to.

Mate of mine puts a square of carpet under his kids seats to stop the car seat getting marked - might even catch some spillage and prevent little buckles sctaching the seat edge to.

I had the same issue. I'm sure you can get extenders for the seat to make it easier to connect as the brackets are hidden well within the seats. I bought one of these which may help you;

I have always used our isofix base unit without fitting the plastic guides. No marks on my leather other than dried apple juice - which does wipe off ok.

A heavy bath towel doubled up and placed underneath the Iso-fix base has worked for me with no damage to the leather in a year's use.

Unless you already have an ISOFix seat, I didn't bother and got 2x Recaro Youngsport seats instead. They sit on the rear bench on top of Sunshine Kids antislip seat protectors (available from Halfords) in the mould of the bench perfactly and sit on the fron passgenger seat as well. Seat belt restrained and very secure.

We use the Young Expert Plus with the Isofix base.

I remember my wife asking innocently why it had to be a Recaro seat

Looks great in the RS4, as his seat is just as much a bucket as mine :D
