RS4 buying advice

Post by Revolution » Sat Jun 19, 2010 5:23 pm

Hi all

Went to have a look at one last week and need a little advice.......

Its done 39,500 miles 2007 model and in the colour and spec that i'm after from a used car specialist Hippo Prestige.
Asking top dollar for it too at:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1640251.htm

Its had 2 owners (the last one for 2 yrs) but looks a little tired and would like to know if the wear and tear is to be expected for the age mileage.

Big lip on front discs - so will need replacing with pads also
Drivers bolster on seat worn pretty bad leather nearly worn thru'
All four wheels have been touched up rather than proper refirbed
Windscreen has a lot of small stone chips on it and I would replace as it would drive me mad.
Just been MOT'd and passed no problem.
Service book has last stamp missing - but original invoice in the pack amongst other receipts.
Its also due a service now & warranty was allowed to expire.

We plan to modify it & service it here anyway so not too worried about what needs to be done.
Just appears that the previous owner wasnt too bothered about looking after it too much.
I think its a straight/ligitimate car but just been negelected a bit...or had a hard life

Do the interiors wear well....I thought Subaru's were bad but this appears to be worse?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

No FBSW.

Do you really need to buy such an expensive car if you are going to modify it?

It says it has buckets - thought the FBSW can with them??

Alo Revelution, I think you've answered your own questions.....the vibe I get from your post seems that your in two minds. There are plenty other RS4s out there at similiar money.
Interior (esp driver seat) does wear quickly, more so if they are neglected.

Keep looking Glenn, that's quite a bit of money for a car with some issues in your eyes and with very little optional extras on it; Tech pack and optics pack.

You can buy mine for the right price! Far better colour; Andy seemed to think so when I was in on Thursday.

This car it seems to be about 1-1.5k over priced for the wear and tear your talking about. I'd expect this price from a main dealer. Also black optics not everyones taste for resale.

wow

Great reply guys...thanks for all your advice and i will try and answer all your points below.

Sims
FBSW - what does this mean....presume its a type of spec - if so what?
Re price - would pay a bit more for the right colour, condition, spec and mileage. but 33k is reserved for sub 20,000 milers only me thinks.
Would be ideal to have decent parts to refit them when we come to re-sell it when were finished with it in a few years time.
Maybe i should have a look at auctions to see if there is a bargain to be had.

Aidan
Seats - presume they can be repaired over time but nice if they were spot on when 1st driving it, these just looked like heavy wear and tear. Big driver maybe

PG
Think they have given too much for it as a part ex and need a return on this.
your colour is........
..and yes its an avant i'm after

RS4414
Think your right and its still a buyers market out there - yes were in Gateshead and service audi's and any car in fact.
Moved to a new place in 2007 and well worth a trip up/down - we do tons of audi parts and mods. Work is underway on an RS4 website as we speak.

mac, bingboybri
did you get to our new place or was it the old place next to the river?

daytonamc
i think its probably worth 30k max but the optic pack/satnav is what i'm after.

Finally
Is mileage a problem with engines - pretty bullet proof me thinks?
Obviously high milers will have their issue on other areas.

Think i will let this one go as there's plenty out there and thanks for all advice.

FBSW = flat bottomed steering wheel.

I know revolution was well regarded in scooby circles - any plans for fabricating RS4 aftermarket exhaust??????

I think I am one of the highest mileage cars on the forum at 68k miles and bar DRC replacement on the front, squeaky exhaust valves and wangling a warranty replacement for them and an intermittent inlet manifold potentiometer fault which appears now to have cured itself (touch wood) my car has been bombproof. I have had to spend nothing on the car bar brakes, tyres + allignment (car only on its 4th set now with 3.5mm left all round and the allignment people are reasonably priced I suppose  ) and servicing.

The brakes issues I have had I think I have now resolved. Not bad on a high performance car.
