It was from the Northants area.
They smashed a window and got in as the keys were in the door!
Very silly of me to leave the keys in the door I know.....

You should be free to leave your keys where you want mate. Fu**ers shouldn't be breaking in should they.
Hope you get it back if thats what you want, not sure i would after they have been driving it.
Plus, if i see it i wouldnt want a reward, just the option to smash the thieving twats around the head with a bar

You are not going to believe this.
The police managed to find my car after two weeks!
It is now with the police waiting for forensics.

I went to have a look at the car today and all looks ok with the body work but obviously there is no way of telling if the B*******S that stole it have damaged anything mechanical.

The other worry I now have is if it will be recorded as Stolen Recovered on the HPI report.
Has anybody had this happen to them?

Any good advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would have thought it will be recorded. Can you refuse to have it back and claim on the insurance?
Thankfully i don't know how it works.

I'm not sure i'm going to have to check it out.
Problem is if you claim the insurance companies have you paying extra for the next five years.

Hi. I had my S4 stolen back in Feb. The Insurance Company declared it a loss after 1 week, therefore if and when it was recovered, it belonged to them. They settled with me and I have bought another car. I very much doubt you can refuse to have it back, as in some way it would cost the Insurance Company. I would also suggest that if you left your keys in the manner you did, it would give them sufficient ammo to void your policy.

It will surely be recorded as Stolen Recovered and you will still have to declare it on future quotes. If you dont, the new insurance company will know as they are all linked to the same database, refuse your insurance and then you will have to declare that also for the next 5 yrs.

I had protected no claims and my insurance company double my premium from £500 to £1024! regardless of the NCB. I dumped them and have gone with another well known company and managed to get it down to £500 again even with the declaration.

If you claim also, you will lose that years NCB, but if you have well over 9yrs, it wont matter much anyway as most insurance companies only recognise 9yrs as a maximum anyway.

Its a crap situation; I went through it for many months, Insurance, Police, Forensics etc etc and it plays on your mind. S4's / RS4's are becoming the car of choice the police tell me. Very fast 4dr, big boot car. I have since been asked to go to the Police to identify many images of S4's they have which have been involved in something or another.

I hope you get a positive result.

Hey thanks alot for the info,
I'm going to get the car checked out by APS in Brackley then decide if I claim on the insurance or not pending what they find.

I have read somewhere that you can contact your insurance company to get the Theft Marker removed that is recorded on MIAFTR anybody had this experience?

Didnt apply to me as they kept the vehicle and settled the claim - Interesting PDF here on the 'CODE OF PRACTICE FOR THE DISPOSAL OF MOTOR VEHICLE SALVAGE' : http://www.abi.org.uk/Information/Codes ... /40510.pdf

Plus a thread which talks about someone in a similar predicament: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topi ... -Off&mid=0
