Woohoo thats a recomendation an arf!! Power gains look as good a pippyrips car that had no cats at all and a full system if i remember correctly? You may have a strong motor! Now for me its a choice, wheel refurb, arbs,re map, headwork, port cleaning, decisions decisions could be an expensive month!

I suppose driving style has a big impact. Here is something copied from another forum:

What is “Carbon build-upâ€

...and we never got an explanation of how "intermittent driving & long time not-using" could have any relevance to what happens when you actually drive the thing

the above "internet truth" i.e., take it with a pinch of salt until you see proof

Sorry lengster, been too busy driving the thing :D

With the inlet work, de-coke, air filter and map it went from 372ps (286@the wheels) to 426ps (about 420bhp I think) on the same dyno. I'm gobsmacked to be honest... Sonny had a little ride in mine today and said it felt nice.

Hats off to the guys at MRC - I can't recommend them enough. Tuning genius :notworthy:
Did you do some tests? 3rd gear 3000-8000 has to be 7.3-7.5 secs or something. How much did it cost?

With respect, that explanation does make common sense.

Do you have an alternative theory?

it does make common sense...but I dont take it as official Audi advice

as for "long time „not-using" ... ??

that's what I'd like to see...

we're talking 54 HP gain:
valves cleaned ? HP
intake manifold ported maybe 5+ HP
fuel filter 0 HP Unless it was so fouled it wasn't delivering enough fuel
air filter if dirty 5+ HP oem or K&N?
plugs probably 5+ HP
oil change 0 HP, maybe a couple
remap 25 HP (claimed)

I can't wrap my head around a 15% power increase with no change in displacement, comp ratio or revs...

probably not...driving style may slow the rate of growth a bit...
but it seems to be back to 80% in 2k miles or so, and maxed at <10k, then seems to stop...

Pippyrips car has definitely got the edge on mine (particularly through the midrange I think) and you'll certainly hear him coming from further away.. However, who knows what variation there is between these cars or dyno's so others may get more or less.

As far as I'm aware nothing has been added to prevent further build-up and I'm guessing it will probably clog up again over time. How much that affects power I've no idea but my ports were very sticky and gunked up even compared to others so I'm hoping that with harder driving (the car had a gentle driver for two years) it won't be so bad. I'm not bothered by it until it does something tangible like preventing the valves closing fully, which I'm assuming isn't a good thing... The other work done will mean I still have a stronger motor than I did anyway.

I haven't done any 3-8k tests so far because the road I use is awkward to say the least.. When I do though I'll post. I'm surprised by the gains achieved at all stages and what MRC have managed to do with my car being not far off stock really (MRC design ITG air filter excepted). Far beyond my expectations and a testament to their know how and dedication!

Plots attached:

Run 1 Baseline.
Run 2 Stock with cleaned and flowed inlet ports.
Run 3 ECU mapped for max efficiency.
