Pictures of my inlet ports....
Hi chaps, my car is at MRC at the moment and Doug took the time to send me some pics of my inlet ports. Thought you'd be interested for reference.

RE: Pictures of my inlet ports....
Really interested in this as im considering how much further tuning to do to mine,What work are you having done? The full monty? Full exhaust inc race cats, remap, ported inlet manifold and cleaned valves?Mine is in need of a remap as i have a full system on it,but how far beyond that i go im not sure,im a little uncertain at spending approx £600 to have valves cleaned if they return to pretty much that state in a few thousand miles, pippyrips old car seemed to have lost a little power since it was done but i believe it was tested on a different set of rollers before.
Re: RE: Pictures of my inlet ports....
I'm guessing it probably does degrade again over time, but one of my concerns was that the previous owner drove the car very gently and it might've been more clogged than normal.lengster1 wrote:Really interested in this as im considering how much further tuning to do to mine,What work are you having done? I'm having the clean-up, flowed ports, new fuel and air filters, plugs and oil plus a remap to get it running nice and crisply. I'm leaving the exhaust standard for now but will probably have some 100 cell downpipes fitted once they're in stock (if anyone know's someone who has them - new or secondhand - then let me know). I've no intention of changing the rest of the exhaust.

Why no system? They sound absolutely awesome,i have valved non res and hi flow cats its amazing in sport mode with the valves open and civilized ish with the valves shut,be really interesting to see what gains you get from this work hope you keep us posted
RE: Re: RE: Pictures of my inlet ports....
Ive just been checking mrc website looking at the power plots,i really like the look of the midrange gains in real world driving conditions they will make a good difference i would think
I'm taking a stealth approach to exhaust noise for now. There are disadvantages to announcing you're coming from a distance... I think the downpipe ramps up the noise a bit when I get round to having it fitted anyway.
Yes, I'm looking for some useful midrange gains but most of all really nice driveability i.e. nice to hold on part throttle through corners, progressive response, clean roll on/off, etc. That's the sort of thing that makes a car a pleasure to drive in my opinion so I'd trade a few bhp for it.
I'll keep you posted with the results and will attach dyno plots later this week as long as MRC don't mind. The car on their site had a Millitek catback so mine being standard will be interesting.

So, straight through downpipes with no pre-cats at all and no cats at the back either?pippyrips wrote:The car on their website has a full decat milltek system and was dynoed each time at surry rolling road
Good god that must have been loud - and fun!

Sorry lengster, been too busy driving the thinglengster1 wrote:Any news on the bhp gains for this work?

With the inlet work, de-coke, air filter and map it went from 372ps (286@the wheels) to 426ps (about 420bhp I think) on the same dyno. I'm gobsmacked to be honest... Sonny had a little ride in mine today and said it felt nice.
Hats off to the guys at MRC - I can't recommend them enough. Tuning genius

Zorbs, gobsmacked you should be, I was really surprised how well your car pulled, it really showed dividends having the work carried out. esp as its a 06 model with 30k on the clock. The car performed very well, a lot faster than mine, and I had the MRC and current Audi software maps added. showed that the work you had done made the difference.
If you do have the cats added I would imagine you will have to ave it remapped again to incorporate the sport cats. a well worthwhile mod imo.

Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
