I used to use Barry's all the time for my S3 and S4, but with the RS4 they weren't as competitive on tyre prices and they can't supply Vredesteins. I use TAM tyres in Dunston next door to Revolution now for balancing and fitting since they have the Hunter GSP 9700; I'm sure Glen will dislike me for saying that!

Thanks for all these responses. All very useful.

I just had a quote by phone for a set of 4 Goodyear GSDs (255/35/19) and they came in at £703.96. As I'd asked for 4 the tyre dealer then said I would get a 5% discount. This takes the cost down to £668.76. I'm pleased with that as I'd always budgeted a lot more in my mind :)
Will keep what I have for the time being as the first MOT is not due until 22 May. I have the feeling the car tyres will be about done by then. Will look to renew early next month.

Hi All,
Have always bought tyres from blackcircles and had locally fitted. If I buy tyres only from the internet can I trust a local fitter with my RS4 alloys and what should they charge to fit...is this normal to buy the tyres and have someone fit them. I am considering the Vreds from Camskill as been driving my RS on winter vreds up to now in Europe. Sorry for the dumb question but not had a car with such expensive tyres before so just gone the easy route. Cheapest I can get for F1 assy is just short of £800 fitted so keen to go for the vreds unless can get cheaper :o .....any help appreciated.

I have just put a set of pilot sport 3 on they are great more grip than the p zero's and should last a lot longer but cost £1,000 fitted, they are good in the wet big improvement on the ps2.

PS2s are in my experience the longest lasting of PZeros, PS2s or F1s and work out at the lowest cost per mile for me.

But the F1s have the best rim protection.

I have nothing good to say about PZeros...

I've got a similar issue to Surfy - I've just bought a set of Vreds for under six hundred quid delivered, but my usual local fitter won't fit them "due to insurance issues".
Can anyone recommend a local fitter who'll fit customer supplied tyres in the Newbury/Swindon area?

You can't beat a bit of rim protection.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

Update on the Vredesteins. Having acquired myself a new tyre tread depth gauge after my eldest chimp lost the previous one, I measured the Vredesteins last night. I am approaching 16k miles on them and rotated two weeks ago front to back so the depths are 5mm on fronts and 4.5mm on rears.

So they are going to well outlast the F1's at 19k miles and those who know me know that I am not a driving miss daisy. but there is a fair amount of motorway driving on them.

I recently had the same decision to make, and after reading this forum decided to go with the Eagle F1 Asymmetrics.

I'm used to inches
what's new? 8 mm (10/32)
and wear limit? wear bars? 1.5 mm?

total wear life ~ 6.5 mm
if we say you have 4.5 left, that's 3 mm of use left...
and you used 3.5 so far

3.5/16 = 3/x
x ~ 13.7k miles left...
wow, you may see close to 30k out of those tires...
a good 25k at least...

Michelin PS2's all the time.

Yes, normally 8mm new and 1.6mm tyre blocks. I reckon 25k miles, plenty for Europe.

PS2's are a good tyre but twice the price of Vredestein and Goodyear, no discernable increase in wet or dry performance and in some instances last as long if not less than the afore mentioned? Perhaps more road noise in Vredesteins but F1's are equal to PS2's

IIRC from some comments on here they actual perform worse in snow than Goodyears and definitely worse than Vredesteins. Hence the PS3 is now out.

For me I don't get anywhere near using my car 10/10th balls out driving where it outperforms the limits of grip from my current tyres. 9/10 is easily achievable on these and my licence is kept in tact.
