B5 RS4 vs. C5 RS6

Post by kaisersolsay » Mon Mar 29, 2010 10:09 pm

Hi,

My mate just bought astandard B5 RS4 and I was surprised just how evenly matched it was to my stadnard RS6! From 0 - 60 I win, but 60 - 130+ they are exactly the same. Is this right?

I would have thought it would be the other way round. The weight advantage of the B5 would come into play at lower speeds and the greater grunt of the RS6 would be better for overcoming air resistance at higher speed. Neither are particularly streamlined cars. How sure are you that the RS4 is standard?

When I put my 6 up against a 500hp RS4 (I was running about 510 and 560 then) the 4 had me in every way, not by much, but every way. Had we had 3 miles of straight then I would have probably taken him at 200+ but in real life- it aint happening......

i think there are a lot of small, light cars that would defeat a '6 in a short, relatively low speed scenario due to power to weight

its a fat old bird

imagine a tuned S3 2.0T, pushing out >300bhp.....mmmmmm

a standard R32 will give the "fat old bird" a run for its money!

When cars start getting quick, then the comparative differences are rarely impressive. I can easily imagine the RS6 not blowing away an R32 in the same way a lambo gaillardo won't blow away an RS6. Quicker, sure, but not like an RS6 against a 1 litre fiesta.

Power to weight is a factor, driving style and knowing the capabilities of what you're driving is important to get the best out of it.

With enough road the RS6 will keep up and even humble most exotic cars worth 3 times more. However, never underestimate the threat of a seemingly inferior hot-hatch, i for one can vouch for the R32 albeit my gearbox was on its way out at the time ;)

Im afraid so.

Its very easy to catch an RS6 off boost and whilst that slush box is figuring out which gear to be in, next man is a gonner.

Plus coupled with the lighter and more nimble chassis, an RS6 isnt much quicker than an .:R in real world driving... i.e something more than a straight line!

evo 8 vs rs6

Post by jamesthecat » Wed Mar 31, 2010 9:46 pm

evo 8 320bhp against standard rs6, evo beats it to around 90-95 then the rs6 munches it,the evo is blistering till it gets near double figures then starts to run out of puff compaired to the 6 but once a corners comes up then its goodbuy rs. :)

This post started comparing straight line performance. That's what I am referring to. Shoulda, coulda, woulda aside, an R32 is no match for an RS6 in a straight line, anyone who thinks it is is deluded.

One has a pwr of around 160, the other has around 270. No contest.

I have been taken off guard by an r32 - by the time my boost kicked in and the box found the right gear he was away and I was playing catch up. The difference is there and i eventually pulled him back but they are nimble.....

By the time you realise you are racing somebody you are always playing catch up... R32 or otherwise. :) If you were on boost and in the right gear (like he/she was) then they would not be able to keep up.

IMHO "Drive" is too slugish to respond for spontaneous overtakes etc, you have to use the gearbox (paddles or at least Sport).

R32s are good cars and the DSG box is great (6.0s 0-60)

....... and 0-100 in the 15s. My mini would keep up with one!

To put this into context again, an R32 does 30 to 100 in about 13 seconds, the RS6 does it in the 8s. It's really no contest.
