Would it be helpful to quote 0 to 60mph/100mph/125mph numbers? :)

i think the E46 and B7 0-62 times are nigh on identical

but i think the E92 BMW is also the same despite the extra ~65hp vs. the E46

surely the best judge of pace is the 'ring

Of course it is, but the people here are not taking an 8 minute race, rather:

NO :)

What is being suggested is that people often make emotive statements that are devoid of any sense of accuracy e.g. "My mates E46 M3 convertible looks like he's in reverse when I blast off in the RS4"! .

There are many on here who have enjoyed ownership of the top BMW's, Porsche, Ferrari, Alfa etc and know that all these cars are great in their own way.

An M3, E46 or E92, is not that dissimilar to an RS4.

As a total package, the RS4 is supreme IMO.

I've just bought an RS4, having been on the market for a performance car for the last few months. In that time I've driven the Porsche 997s, Jag XKR 5.0, Audi TTS and the BMW M3 V8. The BMW was my least favourite car, which was a surprise to me as I loved my old E36 328 coupe.

Why didn't I like it? Cabin is pretty drab and not befitting a £50k + motor, manual geabox is notchy, engine is pretty flat through the midrange, it doesn't sound special at all, the ride is rock hard even in EDC comfort mode, it feels twitchy and the steering is not very accurate. I love the look of them but was hugely dissapointed.

I drove an RS4 the same day and thought is was in a different league for road use and seat of the pants feels much faster too. My opionion of course, but I'm so glad I didn't listen to the motoring press hype and drove all the cars first.

I hope that helps.

I don't doubt that in Spain and on a race track the M3 would be the preferred choice and a better car... but I don't live in Spain and I don't go near a race track... so for me the Top Gear review doesn't really help me :)
