Can you help me out?
DK, I was merely pointing out that we should not generalise as you did -see text below, especially to new forum members.aka_dk wrote:so much to say, but won't ..
who are you sims?
but i cant believe there was no budge on an Audi dealer on an RS 4, there are so many about....the buyer clearly did not go to the right school
Like you & refurb, I am a fan of nice cars. Let's share that.

Much also depends on which salesman you deal with.
At the same dealership:
Salesman 1: He sat in the car, revved engine for 5 seconds, 'I'm only taking window price on this - are you going to give me a deposit now or risk losing it?'. Turned on my heel and walked.
Salesman 2: Next day, pleasantly negotiated £3,000 discount on same car.

I have bought and sold MANY cars over the years. New and used. Typically I feel much better buying used privately as I confident with looking over a car and have always found you can tell a lot about a car by who/where you are buying it from.
I'd never considered buying used from a main dealer largely due to the obscene premiums they demand. Whilst some people like the glass showrooms and coffee I'd previously always preferred to trouser the premium and go the private route.
However, looking into the RS4 it appears an Audi warranty is well worth having as "issues" are often wallet meltingly expensive to resolve. That is what has steered me towards a dealer car. Add to this that they ensure cars are serviced, usually with 4 new tyres and discs/pads attended to, its persuasive, especially as used cars from private sellers aren't up for noticably less.
"Trade" money for a 2007, 1 owner saloon with the usual extras and around 20k seems to be £27k. I want a car for around 6 months maybe 12 and during that period I want, ideally to lose as little as possible, come resale.. The cheaper dealer cars in the Audi network fitting that spec seem to be around £34k, used cars from private sellers are all around £30k at the same mileage but without benefit of the warranty. I'm still looking...but I was surprised to hear the car I was first interested in had made £34995.

If you plan to sell the car in under 12 months, a good Dealer car as you have descriibed will minimise the maintenance costs , no surprises and will be easier to move on with the Dealer warranty.refurb wrote:..

Of course if you can find similar in a privately owned car, that would be a bonus but if it's out of warranty that's £1655 you have to factor in + consumables potentially & surprises.
Good luck with the search.

There are about 50+ cars on PH's right now.
i echo your sentiments refurb, buying privately with an Audi warranty, providing you can satisfy yourself of the person you are buying from, represents excellent VFM...just need to be eyes wide open on maintenance
i'll be selling my avus saloon soon, Audi warranty to Dec + next 2 Audi services for free; if you fancy!

it is surprising it went for that exact amount, but it is down to supply and demand.... i looked on autotrader the other day and i think their were only 130 odd rs4 including b5s... and the b7s would of had some cabs with a more even split between the saloon and avant.. so not a huge choice.. most other times i have looked[every few months] usually around the 160/170 mark.

Let's all celebrate

I see a similar thing happening with the M3 CS/CSL market, and to a small extent the Porsche 996 GTRS market. Good cars are fetching serious money.
I am sure you would do a good deal for refurb.aka_dk wrote:i echo your sentiments refurb, buying privately with an Audi warranty, providing you can satisfy yourself of the person you are buying from, represents excellent VFM...just need to be eyes wide open on maintenance

But from what I gather he is after a car with around 20k miles, whereas yours is north of 70k I believe. Do correct me if I am wrong.

what ever happened to free speech!

refurb mentioned he has bought many cars, new and old. And also this is what he wanted :
2007, 1 owner saloon with the usual extras and around 20k miles
Little or no point at all offering this well researched person a car that has 70k miles on it. You mentioned the mileage on your car on another thread.
I am trying to help refurb, a newbie to the forum.
