Can you help me out?

Another generalisation to a new member on the forum.aka_dk wrote: but i cant believe there was no budge on an Audi dealer on an RS 4, there are so many about....the buyer clearly did not go to the right school

With respect, that's irrelevant.

It is a Dealer's prerogative not to discount, and so many don't. That does not reflect on the education/skills of the buyer.
Imagine you were at your local Tesco and you wanted a discount on some fancy wine (or a tin of beans) they are selling. Would you expect them to discount?
The spread on b7 is more like a clear 2-3k after taking into account prep costs/refurbs and a little on top for negotiation, above that is wishfull thinking, like any deal its individual you take a car in wanting discs pads and tyres and see it up for sale @£6k more weeks later its not a 6k profit is it? they will have refurb/warranty costs of £2k+ and factor in a little negotiation margin ending up with a much smaller real profit. My local dealer shifts rs4 easily over the net at strong money, regarding hexagon they wouldnt get one penny from me without a test drive and a bit of a haggle, they stand for everything i hate about buying from pompous dealers.
With respect, that's irrelevant to compare negotiating a discount at Tesco to when buying a used carSims wrote:

of course it's a dealers prerogative not to negotiate, but are you seriously living in a world where used cars prices are not negotiated
Some dealers will bid very well at b7s often over trade, strong market for them and a smaller but definate profit is much better than a possible good profit if you get my drift? The op wasnt in the best position for main dealer purchase as i found out as a cash buyer for mine also, they factor in a commission for selling on finance and usually trade on your p/x at a profit aswell.
It's the same. Tesco is not a bazaar and some dealers also do not adopt that bazar like attitude. It may surprise you to know that some suppliers to the mighty Tesco also do not negotiate and still get listed, but the vast majority do.aka_dk wrote:With respect, that's irrelevant to compare negotiating a discount at Tesco to when buying a used carSims wrote:

In many cases, yes. In all cases - No. Quite a few Porsche 964 RS & 993RS's have made asking price, and within hours of the cars going on offer. I experienced that also with an RS4 I was looking at.aka_dk wrote: of course it's a dealers prerogative not to negotiate, but are you seriously living in a world where used cars prices are not negotiated
In summary, it's unfair to generalise.
