unless someone retro fitted the FBSW, but surely not !?!
When the Audi phone kit is factory fitted they ALWAYS fit a cradle because they insist that the mobile signal is taken outside of the car - and to do that needs the cradle, the "compensor" (amplifier) and an external antenna (glass or sharkfin).

So since it was a factory option, either:

1) someone has had the centre console cradle removed and the centre console replaced (IIRC craigyb has done this a few times); or
2) the FBSW is a retrofit. Do you have a Sport button on the dash?

Too true.

You have a cradle, so it was a factory fit - simple.

Because you've got the phone cradle in the centre armrest?

Or, because someone retrofitted the phone kit.

so why did you say this ? :?

Beacuse I had got the impression that you didn't have a cradle...

Anyway there's no point in continuing this.

If you have an OE fitted phone kit then you have a cradle either on the dash or in the centre armrest.

To see if you have a retrofit, or a previous owner has removed the cradle, then try searching for a Bluetooth signal with your phone immediately after turning on the ignition.

Sorry I don't think I was all that clear there. I was refering to the somewhat earlier discussion which I will quote here:

"Guys - there are 2 versions of SDS.

Partial SDS that comes whenever you have the Audi phone kit. This allows you to voice dial, that's it.

Full SDS that only comes when you have a special version of the RNS-E ans which allows you to control many functions of the RNS-E as well. "

I would like to know what kind of voice control my car may be equiped with. I do have phone prep in the armrest and my iPhone is connected via bluetooth hooked up and it is woking to recieve and make and calls no problem. Voice dial as as well as voice control of other functions would be nice since the MMI interface is quite clunky compared to a touch screen.

Thanks for any help.

Kris.

In 99.9% of cases you only have the phone SDS.

The way to check is to see if under the SOUND settings on your sat nav you have settings for SDS prompt volume and SDS language - if you don't then you have phone only SDS, if you do then you have full SDS.

I can see that being useful for someone who is in a different car every day or only takes the occasional trip in the car but that is all really & can imagine it not having charge just when you need to use it. If it were me & I only wanted to spend 60 I would buy a basic bluetooth car kit & hadwire it. I recently fitted an old Nokia CK-1W to a Golf - with a bit of clever wiring the only thing visible is the button on the dash, it mutes the stereo & plays through the stereo speakers, the mic could also be integrated into the light although not really designed for this but would be OK for occasional use (did this on another Golf). The only snag is you don't know who is calling without looking at the phone + need to use the phone to dial, but will always be there & work now.

MOTOROLA HF850 = 20 UKP on eBay, Nokia CK-100 = 60

The RNS-E has tel in/out & mute pins so should connect up simply - I am sure someone more expert with the RNS-E could confirm this ?

Spot on - simply connect the Mute out from the phone kit to the Tel Mute pin of the RNS-E, and instead of connecting the phone kit speaker connect the wires from that to the Tel NF+ and Tel NF- pins of the RNS-E.

Provided:
1) the phone module is coded correctly
2) you have a phone and module that are compatible, e.g. iPhones won't sync phonebooks with older phone modules
3) with certain Nokia phones you had to install phone book manager software on the phone
Hi
Just had Audi bluetooth retrofitted
How do I check if phone module is coded correctly?
I have a Nokia E51 - where do I get the phone book manager software from?

Thanks
