That's good enough for me mateCornishmoocher wrote:Ah well,
I genuinely dont see the point. There is more than enough grip from the OEM size so why risk potential rubbing issues, extra load stress on the running gear and then extra stress on you worrying about the extra stress on the running gear?
Don't think they are any cheaper either, the lower profile would worry me a bit too as as an every day car I think that the bastard is a kerbing or a pothole away every minute of every day, and TBH there is enough to worry yourself with without adding to it on the rubber front.
I have seen too many of these worn tyres that "have just happened- they were ok on the last set", at lets say 180mph on a road in Germany how long is that going to take to saw thru your inner wall? I couldn't live with that uncertainty- especially as Mrs Mooch & baby Mooch use the car during the week. (actually baby mooch now 2 1/2 years old, would be calling dady a feckin great big Jessy if she possesd such obscenities in her vocabulary- a complete petrol head & knows the difference between RS4 & 6 and C5 & C6) SOOoooo in a not very short nutshell that is why, maybe i am a bit anal about the rubber, but as I have just found out, my ass doesnt lie, and bad rubber kills, I should have stuck with what I know, and on that front, I CANNOT recommend anything but what I can gaurentee, and that is OEM GYF1 assy's 255/35/19 @40 psi all round.

fanks matey!
I want to make one thing perfectly clear here though, all of those that are running Vreds with no issues, I am not in anyway suggesting that you guys or your cars shouldn't. Right here, right now, they do not suit MY car or MY driving style or both.
if nothing else, it has been a great discussion topic, somethings have come to light that we did not know, and I reckon we have all learnt a bit on rubber this weekend! I certainly have. It may still prove to be something broken on the car- but I doubt it.
I will of course keep you all updated.
I am just trying to think whether I have any recourse with Camskill, as like most of us, I cannot afford to lose £600, an lets face it, who is going to by THESE tyres?

would a 255 tyre be too stretched over a 9.5J wheel?Cornishmoocher wrote:Without a shadow of a doubt the goodyears.
Stick with 255/35/19, blow em up to 40 psi, and you will tear your face off before they let go.

Alex, Just noticed this thread.........I have PM'ed You my number
If there is anything I can do let Me know, I've got GY F1 asyms on my 6 so if it will help You can come and borrow My wheels to check if it makes the Lardy Barge come right again.
As for the Vreds well its typical that I've just bought a set for the R32 and had them put on Today.
Had no time for testing as I had to come straight home and accidently got pi$$ed so that will have to wait until Tomorrow now !
Cheers, Rich.

sorry Alex, was nothing to do with the RS4, and sorry for stealing your thread...Cornishmoocher wrote:not sure what you mean clive.
the Rs6 runs the same size tyre as the b7rs4- unless I ahve dropped another goolie?

I was just wondering if the 255s would be suitable for a 9.5J wheel, but I found my answer here : http://www.tyresite.com/tyrecalc.asp
according to that, they're OK for 8.5 to 10J (stock RS6 19s are 9J)

Ive just ordered some 255 GY F1 ASSY's from mytyres, 210 queen quids each fully fitted if their good enough for the Lardy Barge their good enough for my paltry 450bhp old bus!
Never used these before on any car I've had so hopefully their as good as everyone says, if they perform anywhere as good as the Michy PS2's I'll be well chuffed.

In fact I would be almost offended if someone didn't!
anyhoo- it was a tyre related question so not really hijacking.
AND as if I'd give a flip anyway

you wont regret it.
just ensure that they are european spec tyres should have an E then a number 4 or 8 or such like in a little circle, that will show that they are european spec and not far/middle eastern tyres (compound is different) Some people who offer cheaper tyres sell these. I believe a couple of people have been caught out . I nearly was- if it wasn't for Paz or Clive-cant remeber which one!
40psi all round is perfect.
Then 50-100 miles nice and steady on em, then say another 100 at motorwayish speeds. That should condition them lovely.
Give em a mile or so in the morning to warm up before thrashing and you will not look back.

Just read carefully what it says on the sidewall, as the ones made in China say "Designed in Germany" or something like that, and then the "Made in China" bit is less obvious on the other side of the tyre.
