255/35 or 275/30 are the two best known.

R19 96 Y XL on both

I find the turn in and added alloy rim protection better on the 275's better with no detriment in road noise or peformance. Only downside is that the 1% increase in tacho figures vs, actual mileage but with the amount of miles done in my car it's not significant.

What does it come with from the factory and why do you have to down one from 35 to 30 on the profile because you are going wider on the width

The ration (30 or 35) is a percentage of the tyre width so 275/30 rolling circumfrence is almost the same as 255/35s (i think!!)

i suppose if you go 275 / 30 it looks better and handles a bit better but you lose a bit of ride comfort, what do most people put on

If it rode & handled better on 275/30s Audi would probably have spec'd them as OE.

However, if looks are more important................

Is that the same train of though that says you should buy Michelin PS2's Conti SC3's or Pirelli PZero's beacuse they are OE tyres on an RS4 and not the F1's or Vredesteins which have been well documented as being as good as PS2's and leagues ahead of the others?

No, not at all. As we all know, manufacturers use a variety of tyre suppliers, but their tyres are all approved for specific fitments. If the F1 Assy had been available in that size during production I'm sure Goodyear would have been trying to offer them to Audi. It probably all comes down to cost & availability.

Changing the size & aspect ratio is another matter though. Audi would have had to certify the car on those sizes, which would involve pretty thorough testing. Why would Audi not want the best overall "package"? It's not exactly under-tyred on 255/35s!

Goodyear did have tyre out at that time though, the GSD3. I'm sure Audi are recommended tyres by manufacturers and that the decision is based on what price they are getting those tyres for plus the PR the manufacturers get from it.

What has been shown though is that 275 are just as good if not better than 255's, the rim protection bit is a bonus. Same theory as remaps, Milltek, air filters, Hotchkis bars etc etc eveything is done to a budget OEM so there are just as good or better parts out there.

Down to personal choice really.
