That's what I thought

...but it would save the underneath of my car from more abuse!

I'll be there.. usually there 7 or 8 times a year anyway!

One word of advice gentlemen.. leave your egos at home when you go... this is NOTHING like any circuit driving you've done before...

This is what I've pulled together for the Saab clubs visiting the ring :

There is no calendar for next year, yet, but think we shouldn't try to jump the gun on it an do it when the wheather is okay for sure! Would be a pity if you come over and you have to drive in heavy rain (RS DC 2002 )

Thanks Eric! (interesting site too)

seriously though has anyone who normally has trackday insurance managed to get it for the Ring or can you get around it as it is a public circuit/road (or go without)?

I got the answer to this from Marks web site:

"Although not widely known, the Ring has always allowed public access. When not being used for racing (extremely rare these days), testing or private hire, it is officially a one-way public toll-road. Buy a ticket and you can drive/ride a lap. And because it's officially a public road, your normal car/bike insurance applies."

My insurance covers me for track days so I wasn't bothered if it was track or road but I called the insurance company to hear what they had to say as a mate needed to know for his cover.
They couldn't find it in their policy, so to avoid confusion they added it as a covered track for me although this didn't help my mate.
Anyway this year I renewed and now am told that the 'ring is excluded even though, to date, they can't provide any evidence of this.

Don't go on what a website says. Check with your own insurance provider.

Scotty - I would check just to be sure, I'll call them tomorrow. I am normally covered for track days but I know that there are levels of risk attributed to certain tracks, with I guess the 'Ring being one of the riskiest..

My insurer has told me that if I drive the 'full circuit' then I am covered but I have to pay the normal £65 track day fee, but if I am not driving the full circuit then they cover it under their standard insurance as it is classed as a public road.

This was Greenlight Insurance.

I don't think you can drive the full circuit, as the new part where the grandstands are is normally closed off (well, it has been all the times I've been there anyway).

Also, you cannot do flying laps as you need to come in and swipe your ticket through the barrier for each lap. This is normally good enough for the insurers to be happy it is not a track day, like a trip to silverstone or brands would be.

Cheers,
John.

Plus you can leave and enter the north loop (nordschleife) at the hotel at Breidscheid...

Plus you can leave and enter the north loop (nordschleife) at the hotel at Breidscheid...

Can you still do this ?
This is where the no road going stuff used to enter the circuit, right ?
I thought they had stopped this now and you could only enter from the main public barrier...
I'm sure someone told me this in the last couple of months (possibly even on here).

Cheers,
John.

I think you are thinking of the 'old' start/finish area next to the new circuit... (which isn't possible during tourist days..)

But at Breidscheid there is another toll barrier which allows 1/2 laps. You can enter and exit there too...

I'll have a word with Quattro GmbH in the New Year, see if they can arrange something for us .
I could organize the karting (would love to drive against Vinny!)! I just have to know the dates and number of people coming and taking part. We can also have cups for the best drivers! And, there is cross kart track! I'll look for more information!
