Hi guys,
as some of you may have read, I got a c6 avant about a month ago now.
I had some milltek quads fitted by andy at autotechnica in hull and while he had the car he asked if I would mind him taking some readings from the ecu to send to revo technik so they could look at doing a remap program for our v10's. No problem, said I was fine with that.

I've just had a call from andy, aand he has told me that revo technik has been back in touch and have asked if they could have my car for a week to work some more on it, and in exchange they will give me a free remap.
Fair deal do you think? I've not heard of them before (never bothered with remaps in the past), are they any good?
Obviously, I don't want my car damaging so if I go ahead with it I'll be insisting that they fully insure the engine and gearbox, so if the worst was to happen at least I'm not going to end up twenty grand down for a new engine.
So what would you guys do? I'm in a real quandry!

How much is a remap?
If it is any less than £5k I wouldn't bother. If it's between £500 and £600, then I would wait for someone else to develop the remap, test it, then I'd and buy it.
I'm the least knowledgeable about remaps for the C6 RS and there are a lot of people on the forum who are in the know re which is the best remap for your car.

Actually, I would be grateful to have a standard ECU that works! :boohoo:

REVO Technik are a reputabe firm, they remapped my old S4 with good results. They also have a good testing facility with their own rolling road now. They have always had a good reputation for delivering useable remaps rather than getting the most bhp or torque out of an engine combined with improved fuel economy.

If you are unsure ask what they will be doing with your car. They will insure it for driving etc but I suspect all they will be doing is looking at the programming on your ECU's already, writing new programs altering the parameters and uploading these to your ECU's in currently redundant tables. They do not actually remove the OEM program IIRC, just tell the ECU to look at the tables they have uploaded instead of the OEM ones. and the ECU's should nto be removed, REVO typically do all work by flashing the ECU's through the OBD2 port.

REVO also use a ECU access backclick counter function so even if you eventually decide to let REVO use your car as guinea pig and not take the remap, Audi will not know that they have been accessing your car's ECU's and it will not invalidate warranty.

If you want a price on it, I would suggest remapping an RS6 will cost £750 to £1K through REVO. If you are going to let them have it you should ask for unlimited reflashes of their map in the event you take your car to Audi and they reflash your ECU with an update which wipes REVO's map off. If you don't, you normally have to pay a small surcharge every time they have to upload their remap again.

I had AmD map my previous car (A6 3.0TDI) and the improvement was fantastic so I had them map my RS6 and I have to say again the change was awesome and the car made 640Hp & 589ft-lb which was what I was quoted and importantly she still drove flawlessly.

However, being me I wanted more and just couldn't justify MTM prices. AmD offered to use my car as a "guinea pig" and improve the outputs but when I really thought about it I wanted the work done with the assurance of a proven history of mapping the C6. This is no slight on AmD obviously they have to develop a map using a car and measuring results/effects.

So I was recommended MRC by many people on the forums and also spoke to Surrey Rolling Road who'd Dyno'd a couple of their C6's. I popped the car into MRC Friday before last and thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality, genuine enthusiasm for their work, knowledge and ultimately, the drive home !! :shock:

Been to Surrey Rolling Road today, my car ran 694Hp & 625ft-lb/847Nm :shock: :D I am delighted with the figures and the car is behaving & driving beautifully! :D

Just my 2 cents!

I've had my RS6 and 997 TURBO re-mapped by DMS, and there are amazing!!

The difference in both cars is unbelievable. They are more expensive than other re-mappers out there, but importantly they FULLY insure their work, and will come out and upload the map as many times as is need should Audi "flash" it.

They guys they use to install the maps are good lads, and very clued up, and Mike Cooper the main man is great, and there's nothing he doesn't know!!

Give him a call, and get some information. Theres no harm in doing so, and it might help you make an informed decision

I thought anything above 800Nm of torque can put significant pressure on the gearbox?! In comparison with MTM how would MRC stack?

PS this is my first post on RS246, and yes i've fallen for the RS6 trap:):) :D

My understanding is that the Torque Converter and 6750RPM limit remain protecting the gearbox or we'd be mapping this out and looking to rev the car to 8000RPM (Lambo) and 800HP+ :lol:

I can't remember if you can short shift at say 5000RPM at full acceleration in standard form - someone??
but I can't now, the car won't allow it without lifting off so as to protect the gearbox and drive train - to me this is a good thing and shows the car is protecting itself as it should be but up-shifts at the limit still produce that addictive "boom" as the torque converters "massage" the power delivery through the change. :thumbs:

Well,
after a great deal of thought, I've decided not to bother.
After doing a bit of research they seem as if they have lost their way a little after a couple of the guys have left the firm. I just don't want to take the risk of possible damage to my car for something that is probably going to cost less than a grand to buy in the future knowing that it has been thoroughly tested (on somebody else's car) and is thoroughly reliable. I also don't like the thought that someone else will be giving my car a good thrashing without me being there to see just how much of a thrashing it will take. Only I'm allowed to do that! I'm sure I'm not the only one here who has hired a car and driven it to within an inch of it's life, you just are'nt bothered when you know it is not yours and you will be giving it back for the owner (hire company) to sort out the expensive mess.
I'm also thinking that is it really worth doing at the moment. The weather is hardly the right time to wanting even more power with winter just starting. Plus my wife has correctly pointed out, I have a car most people would chop their right arm off for, why the hell do I want more?
If I choose to get a remap done, I think I'll wait for spring/summer when I've truly grown used to the car, that stage when you start thinking "it does'nt feel as fast as it used to" and perhaps then get it done.
I'm sure if anyone fancy's having it done, you could give Andy at autotechnica in hull a call and make some arrangements.

Holmax, if you begin to think your car isn't fast enough I'll swap you for the wife's A2 for a week so you can 'appreciate' it again. Works for me everytime for my RS4! :lol:

You are right about REVO losing people, most significant was Mitch. He actually came along with Mark (IIRC) the programmer to see my car being remapped at WRC Technologies at Silverstone to see the results and we were there for 5 hours chatting away. But there are still some of the guys there that do good work. Like said, your choice.

Wise move Holmax ... why would one spend circa £55k to £ 75k & allow some firm tinker with the powerhouse ?

Mine was done by MTM & I can't fault them, although I've sold it now
