Rolling road day results and pics

Thanks to Jim over in the B7 section and the guys at Paramount Performance in Slough for the rolling road day.

My beast went on the rollers too, and got a respectable 478bhp, but strangly only 400lb/ft torque. The 478bhp was a little less than I was realisticly hoping for. A couple of owners back, in the end of 2005 it achieved 536bhp somewhere, the previous owner had around 470 on the same type of rollers in 2008, then a couple of weeks later tried again on the same rollers and got 502 (and these were the same type of roller used by Paramount) My car was serviced by grizz 3500 miles ago.

David Koulakis had his car on the rollers before mine and they guys seemed to struggle a bit with something with his runs so I don't know whether there are any missing horses with his and mine because of the rollers or not. I don't have any concerns form a driving point of view though but don't really have much to compare it too.

The torque figure is very low, lower than standard. So either the figure is simply wrong or there is an issue with my car. But, in all the time I've been driving the car I haven't been thinking there's any problem with the performance. There is so little lag (it's one of the things people comment on) and always a huge linear wave of power, so I'm not going to worry myself yet.

I will run it with vagcom on it in the near future, there are a couple of people near me with it.

Actually, what lb/ft of torque did you get on Saturday David?

What exhaust have you got? If you're not running a standard exhaust, your torque could be suffering, depending on the tune.

It has a full miltek including 100 cell cats and a re-map. I don't know which map it is though.

In the past is has achieved 600lb/ft in late 2005 (and 536bhp) and in late 2008 had about 550lbft with 467bhp (it then got 502bhp a couple of weeks later, I think after mafs and N72's etc were changed, but I've not got the torque figures for the 502bhp run).

I could easily be wrong but I'd have thought that a loss of a 1/3rd of the torque would have been reflected by a bigger loss of bhp.

Indeed, has anyone ever seen such low torque whilst still getting high bhp with one of our cars?

I think the rolling roads don't know how to calculate torque properly with 4x4 autoboxes. When I put mine on recently it was reading up to 900Nm ! However, on the manual cars, it was spot on. It's a real pain not being able to get an accurate indication of what your engine is putting out without removing it and putting it on a bench dyno!

That's about 650lbft then, so, yes not right for your car.

I do think you need to take the results generally with a bit of a pinch of salt. Good if you're running with several like cars so you can compare and as you've pointed out, our auto boxes make things more difficult for the guys running the machines. Then you've got the thorny issue of what percentage are they using to guess at your engine figure, unfortunately I didn't get the whp figure.

But the guys running it defo had trouble configuring the rollers for the 6...he was saying the rear wheels were overtaking the fronts and the ecu was cutting the power, he said as the 6 is electronically controlled vs mechanically in the 4 it was more dofficult to get a accurate read out
They said they had ordered a new type of dyno from the US that could do it
I asked him if he thought it was the car or the dyno and he said without hesitation the dyno....
But regardless, the car feels as fast as the day i bought it, and im sure MRC will find anything untoward in a healthcheck in 2weeks

You can just about make out the curves on their lcd monitor in the photos I took (download the originals and zoom right in) and you look to be hitting about 400lbft as well but drop of a little earlier and a little quicker than mine and not really the level line of torque you'd expect from 2k rpm to 5k rpm our cars normally have.
